HERTS LEAGUE ROUND-UP - WEEK 16: Merrett's Ton Telling For Twos

22 Aug 2016

NICK MERRETT hit an magnificent unbeaten 112 for the victorious LGCC 2nd XI as they maintained their promotion push with a rain-affected victory at home to Rickmansworth.

Stand-in skipper Merrett was ably supported by both Ash Ali, who hit 79, and 60 from Keith Glasscoe as the 2s posted a target of 283 in this Saracens Herts Premier League Division 5 clash.

With rain playing its part after tea, Ricky threatened to match the Green run-rate of 5.66 but the loss of regular wickets - shared around between bowlers - saw their innings close on 137-7 when bad light stopped play after 30.1 overs.

It leaves Levy 2nd XI seven points clear of West Herts II in second place, with top-of-the-table Parkfield & Headstone the opposition in this coming weekend's penultimate round of fixtures.

ANDY GREEN'S unbeaten 40 came in vain as LGCC 3s fell well short of chasing Division 9B high-flyers Old Minchendenians' imposing 283-3.

An under-strength 3rd XI battled hard in the field, with Lewis Glasscoe going wicketless for just 24 runs from his 10 overs, but could only muster 92 between them in reply.

It leaves Neil Fleming's team perched precariously above the relegation zone with a final-day clash against lowly Kings Langley III on the horizon.

TO the sound of the Vicarage Road crowd, there was little to cheer for Levy 1s at West Herts on Saturday.

The Division 1 table-topping hosts restricted Green to 124-7 from a rain-reduced 45 overs, with middle-order contributions from captain Dayle Littlejohn (23 not out), Lee Channer (22) and Majid Khan (16 not out) helping to post some sort of total.

In reply, West Herts reached 87-3 from 23.5 overs before rain washed out play, but the host's superior run-rate meant victory and promotion for them back to the Championship.

Green 1s are now four points above second-from-bottom Knebworth Park, who they travel to face on the season's final day.
