Match report LEVERSTOCK GREEN are into the Gazette Cup semi-finals after conjuring up an outstanding low-scoring victory - thanks in no small part to a devastating spell of six for 13 from paceman Adam Thomas.

The Green's 'Cricket & Curry Night' threatened to be more about the food than the action when the home team put up only 95 from their 20 overs after Richard Walker won the toss and chose to bat first.

It might have been significantly more had Nick Merrett not run himself out when looking well set on 20. Dave Tyson's 19 and 15 not out from Jamie Wallis were the only other double-figure scores as Levy's total never suggested it would get to three figures.

However, on a strip affected by the week's rain, 95 was to prove enough - although at 42 without loss from 10 overs, visitors Northchurch appeared firmly in control.

Tyson (2-16) started the wicket-taking with the first break-through and Thomas - backed up by tight overs from Imran Iqbal and Sam Roberts - exposed the flaws of the 'Church lower order.

All the while, Green's efforts with the ball were backed up by some outstanding fielding and catching. Top takes from Ben Parkes and Paul Insley were the particular highlights, as the opposition couldn't find another partnership with the run-rate rising.

It was left to Thomas, fittingly, to administer the killer blow, his third 'bowled' of the innings finally securing what at half-way seemed an unlikely 20-run success.

Green must now wait to learn their semi-final opponents, with the three other quarter-finals all due to be played this week.
