Watford Town v Leverstock Green Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 27 Jun 2015 at 1.00pm
Leverstock Green Cricket Club Won by 219 runs
Match report
LGCC 295/6 (48 overs) Jadeja 128, Kumar 70, Barnard 44
WTCC 76/10 (20.4 overs) Khan 5/28, Thomas 5/44
Leverstock Green 1st XI returned to winning ways with a thumping victory at Watford Town. With more than half of the Watford side fasting due to Ramadan, and the weather very warm, the toss looked important, and Dayle Littlejohn duly obliged by winning it and opting to bat first.
After a stroked boundary through backward point from Lewis Koch, LGCC were quickly 1 down, as Koch was adjudged LBW to the left arm seam of Asad Sajjad.
Miles Barnard and Kyle Claxton set a very good platform with a partnership of 73 in good time without ever looking like they were pushing too hard. Both were dismissed within two overs of each other, both falling to spinner Valand; Claxton first to go, bowled by one that turned in to him sharply for 22, before Barnard was unluckily given out LBW to one that hit the bat before hitting the pads. He made 44 from 46 balls.
LGCC were 78 for 3 with the potential for an all-too-familiar collapse. Kris Jadeja counter-attacked and put on 46 with Dayle Littlejohn before Littlejohn tried to get to the pitch of one of Valand's variation leg spinners and was stumped for 0.
Ajit Kumar joined Jadeja and the pair set about the bowling with gusto. They put on a scintillating partnership of 156, with both men in terrific form. Jadeja was severe on anything overpitched, striking the ball beautifully and hitting it a very long way. He went through to a fantastic century from only 87 balls, and Kumar made a terrific 70 with 13 boundaries before he was finally held in the deep from the bowling of Hussain with the score on 278.
Mark Landau joined Jadeja and they added 14 more runs until Jadeja was bowled by Hussain trying to hit another maximum, finally going for 128 from 108 balls, with 14 fours, and 5 sixes. LGCC finally declared on 295/6 from 48 overs, leaving Watford Town 52 to try to chase the total.
There were few alarms in the first four overs of the Watford Town reply, though the odd ball showed uneven bounce. With the score on 15 Ubaid Shahid was LBW to a Majid Khan outswinger, and 2 balls later Valand nicked the same bowler through to Lewis Koch's safe hands at second slip.
In the next over Usman Majid was bowled by Adam Thomas for 9 and WTCC were 19/3. Their situation became more perilous 2 overs later as first Pujari was very smartly taken at short leg by Miles Barnard off the bowling of Thomas, then WTCC skipper Gulfraz Riaz was LBW first ball.
Things got even worse for WTCC as they lost 3 wickets with the score on 38, as first Sharp nicked Thomas behind to Kyle Claxton, then Panchal was pouched by Koch off Majid Khan, before Hussain was bowled by a Thomas off-cutter that the batsman left.
The 9th and 10th wickets offered a little more resistance as youngster Sajjad battled bravely to his side's only double figure score. With the score on 53 the 9th wicket fell, the Khan/Koch combination doing the damage again.
Sajjad was the last man to go, well caught at third slip by Barnard to give Khan his 5th wicket, matching Thomas' feat at the other end.
LGCC ran out winners by 219 runs, to narrow the gap on Radlett at the top of the table.
