Preston v Leverstock Green Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 22 Aug 2015 at 1.00pm
Leverstock Green Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
Highlights: Dayle Littlejohn 4-27, Imran Iqbal 3-3; Kyle Claxton 35*.
Leverstock Green once more took a firm grip on Division 2A of the Saracens Herts League, with what turned out to be a comfortable win at Preston in the end, after some shaky moments.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first, but found a pitch that was offering something to all the bowlers - particularly with the newer, harder ball.
Adam Thomas was excellent, bowling 10 overs through in the heat for 18 runs. He grabbed the first wicket, trapping Hearne LBW for eight. Stevens and Gallimore took the score to 30 before Khan found Stevens' outside edge, wicketkeeper Claxton taking a good low catch. Murrell followed shortly afterwards with the score on 37, Thomas finding a leading edge and Miles Barnard leaping to take a fantastic, one-handed catch.
Dayle Littlejohn replaced Khan and was immediately rewarded when Gallimore clipped him to Lewis Koch at mid-wicket for 26, to leave Preston 41/4. Six overs later, after some tight bowling, Littlejohn picked up two more wickets in consecutive balls, overseas player Crea driving at one but only finding Khan at mid-off, before Hill nicked behind to Claxton who took a good catch standing up to the wicket.
Fleckney was next to go after a 17-ball stay that yielded him only two runs, falling LBW to Littlejohn to give the seamer his fourth wicket. Some brief resistance from Blair and Morecroft was ended by Imran Iqbal, who got them both LBW bowling full and straight, before taking the final wicket Anderson, to bowl Preston out for 92 - a total that looked at least 60 short on what was a difficult but not impossible pitch.
Leverstock Green's reply began disastrously as Miles Barnard was caught at mid-on in the first over for nought, before Lewis Koch was caught behind first ball, leaving LGCC 1-2.
Kris Jadeja looked to be aggressive, with some powerful dribving through the off side, before he too fell, caught at long-off by Fleckney off Waters for 21. Kyle Claxton was batting well, but got little support from the middle order as first Littlejohn was bowled for 0 off an inside edge by Anderson before Kumar was again a victim caught in the deep, off the bowling of Murrell.
LGCC were 49/5 and still some way from their target. Nerves were settled though as Claxton and Mark Landau put together a solid partnership which took the game away from Preston. Both were watchful against some good spin bowling, but took any opportunities to score. They reached the victory target in the 26th over, with Claxton finishing 35* and Landau 18*.
Leverstock Green are now 19 points clear at the top of the division with two games to go.
