Match report LEVERSTOCK GREEN'S dreams of a Herts County Cup semi-final appearance were dashed at HCPL club Letchworth Garden City - but they will only have themselves to blame after not capitalising on a good start with the bat.

Green posted 211 from their 50 overs, having put on 103 for the first wicket without the scoring rate ever seriously increasing early on, leaving a target that proved - as feared to be between 30 and 40 runs short of par.

As it was, excellent bowling from Charlie Mahanama, Dave Tyson and Lewis Koch kept City's run chase in check - apart from a superb 99 from Letchworth's No. 4 Pipe.

It fell on his shoulders to see City to victory, but the hosts were too near home when Pipe was finally removed - the seventh home side wicket to fall during a run chase that concluded with five overs in hand.

Lewis Koch (51) and Kris Jadeja (45) laid the foundations at the top of the Green innings, if a little slowly at times, but Levy's batting effort wasn't helped by the unfortunate run out of Dave Tyson (29) just as he'd found the bowlers' measure.

Nahim Iqbal (25) and Charlie Mahanama (26) ensured Green had a 200-plus total to defend, but it always looked a good bit too few on a flat deck and a lightning-fast outfield.

Nevertheless, LGCC should be pleased to have reached the competition's last eight - the last Herts League side left in the County Cup at the quarter-final stage.
