Match report LGCC's Under-12 season 2018 rounded itself off in slightly underwhelming fashion at The Green with a 21-run defeat to Berkhamsted.

A record of three wins, three defeats and a tied game (Bovingdon at home will not be rescheduled) is a reasonable return from seven matches played, although this group of cricketers is capable of more for certain - especially with their increased match experience at higher age-group cricket.

Fielding and bowling was at a season's worst during the first half of the Berko innings, however Levy came back refreshed after a water break on a stiflingly hot evening to restrict further progress to a net 37 runs.

Berko's 305 still looked a mighty target for The Green to chase down but, with sensible batting and the loss of only two wickets, they came within 20-odd runs of doing so.

Some mighty blows from Jemma Cardy yielded her 17 not out while skipper Geraint Yates stroked the shot of the night through mid-on for four on his way to an unbeaten 14.

All batters did their best to further the Levy chase, however some tentative running may have meant the margin of defeat could have been reduced. It was certainly one less than it might have been thanks to a first club run on the board from debutant Sam Pullen, who performed admirably throughout.

George Sharman collected a five from the first scoring shot of LGCC's reply, having earlier been the pick of Levy's bowlers with 1-16 from his three overs.

It's clear that most of this side are now ready to leave pairs-based cricket behind, in terms of their wish to formulate longer innings for themselves at the crease when batting.

Now the challenge comes to combine the improvements in each area of the game and really push forward with purpose into the regular 11-a-side format of both Under-13 and Under-14 fixtures.
