Match report LGCC's Under-14s enjoyed an exciting start to their 2021 season, having victory snatched away from them during the final four overs by Redbourn's big-hitting Harry Lannon whose 24 earned his team a five-run win at The Green.

On a clear April evening that was very fresh in feel by the time the final ball was bowled at gone 8.20pm, both sides committed to this B League pairs fixture with gusto and enthusiasm - and no little cricketing talent.

Many of Green's batters applied themselves diligently; Alfie Cawley - with 15 - the pick in terms of shot selection and execution. Lewis Cooper (18) and debutant Kihzar Hayat (17) top-scored as LGCC posted 305-6 from their 20 overs.

Fellow first-gamer Umar Shabir impressed with the ball, as did Finlay Rennie who has turned to spin bowling and showed that his action will provide him with plenty of future success.

Despite taking some tap from Lannon late on, Callum Pillay bowled beautifully straight and at least got one wicket for his work.

Alfie also performed well with the ball, Stanley Heritage kept very tidily while the night's best performance in the field came from James Craig who got behind everything and set a great example.

It's always a pleasure to host Redbourn, who play the game very much as the Spirit of Cricket intends. We look forward to the return match and to upcoming other fixtures after a very promising start.
