Match report West Herts opted to bat first and openers Abhyankar (43) and Kotecha (26) built a very steady opening partnership of 59. Green, brillaint in the field at times, slow on occasions, kept in the match with pressure in the second half of the innings. Sam Revell 1 for 12 , Adam Campbell 1 for 10 and Doug McKay 1 for 6 were the successful bowlers. 117 looked a target well in the reach of The Green.
The early loss of Connor Church in the first over put Green on the back foot to start with but a 68 run partnership for the second wicket with George McCausland (51 not out) and Sam Revell 21 rescued the cause and kept Green in very much with a shout. Rory Fleming batting 5, looked very positive from the start but struggled to find a partnership and it came down to Green needing 18 from the last over with Fleming (23 not out) and Daniel Lake (6 not out) charged with the task. The crowds flocked from all 4 corners of West Watford, and 2 fours off the first 2 balls ensured the suspense was maintained. 2 further runs followed before another 4 was hit off the penultimate ball. Could it be true, the game had come down to 4 being needed off the final ball. An adrenalin fuelled Fleming thought he had the measure of the final shot, but alas it was picked up inside the boundary and only 2 resulted. A small margin of defeat but a very exciting finish to a good game.
