Old Cholmeleians II v Leverstock Green Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 05 Jul 2014 at 1pm
Leverstock Green Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
Highlights: D Littlejohn 5-23.
A match winning contribution from skipper Dayle Littlejohn got Leverstock Green 2’s over the line in a nervy finish away at Old Cholmeleians.
On a wicket that looked tough to bat on, Green bowled first as they looked for their seventh win in a row. Tom ‘Sat Nav’ Callingham, fresh from his mid-season week away threw down some good testing deliveries however it was his looser balls that brought two early breakthroughs. The Crane ran in up the hill in a lengthy 17-over spell returning figures of 2-43. Skipper DJ once more proved his worth with the ball as he ripped through the middle-order and claimed his second five-wicket haul of the season. At 53-8, the home side looked in trouble however a few big blows from the tail got them up to 84 and a score that would be very difficult to chase for the Green on a tough pitch.
As Green had tea in the prom-style room, the rain fell and a delayed start to our innings occurred. It made for even tougher conditions for us to bat in as the uncovered strip was soaked and became a little muddy. Early wickets fell in our reply which started to threaten our unbeaten run for the first time this season. A recovery was needed and defensive displays from Chrishan Casey (7) and Jamie Wallis (24) got us back on track. DJ and TC came together in the middle and showed great patience as we crept closer to the target. TC departed but DJ stood strong (22 not out) and it was left to Mr Vintage to strike the winning runs. A huge relief and another 30 points!
