Brilliant individual performances from Imran Iqbal and Miles Barnard at Northwood helped Leverstock Green 1st XI to their fifth consecutive win to start the season. Northwood won the toss and elected to make first use of a hard but well grassed surface. Opening bowlers Majid Khan and Adam Thomas kept things tight initially without being able to find the breakthrough, Thomas in particular impressing in 3 consecutive maidens. It took a change of ends to make something happen, Thomas trapping Murphy LBW for 16. Dayle Littlejohn replaced Khan, and got the next wicket in his second over, bowling Noach for 12. Soon afterwards ex-Surrey man Sargeant was bowled by Imran Iqbal for 31, and Woon-Sam caught well low down at slip by Dave Tyson off Littlejohn. Northwood were 82/4 with the game swinging towards the away side. Dhaval Panchal brought Northwood back into it with some aggressive batting, striking the ball well down the ground, and going through to a half century off just 43 balls. His partnership with Reeve was worth 81 and at 163/4 Northwood looked to have the platform to set a very challenging target. It fell to Lewis Koch to take the crucial wicket of Panchal, a loose drive caught well low down by Mark Landau. With Panchal gone, the game was once more back in the balance. Imran Iqbal wrestled it firmly from Northwood's grasp with an inspired over. The carnage was started with a piece of quick thinking from Miles Barnard who was quick to pounce on a ball that deflected off the batsman's pads and stump him. Next ball Sharma was bowled, leaving Darbon to face the hat trick delivery. He was trapped plumb in front, and Iqbal was mobbed by his teammates. The final ball of the over was another full straight one, and rearranged Lewis' stumps. 4 in 4 and 5 in the innings! The final pair managed to hang around for 5 overs before a strong throw from Lewis Koch, and smart keeping from Barnard saw last man Babu run out for 4. Northwood dismissed for 182 in the 43rd over.

Miles Barnard, obviously fuelled up well at tea, came out in aggressive mode, and launched 2 huge sixes in the 2nd over of the innings, with both balls lost. He still seemed to enjoy the 3rd new ball, and drove and pulled at anything loose, going through to a well-made half century. Lewis Koch and Dayle Littlejohn offered good support with 19 and 16 respectively but none of the Leverstock Green batsman managed to pass 15 as LGCC made hard work of a chase that should probably have been easier. Koch and Littlejohn fell to Lewis, Jadeja and Revell to the leg spinner Sharma, and Mark Landau drove loosely at Darbon. Barnard was then adjudged LBW to Sharma, to one that looked a little high, for a fantastic 82, and LGCC looked in danger of throwing away a very strong position. Dave Tyson and Majid Khan were having none of it and 4 quick boundaries eased the nerves, as the pair took Leverstock Green past the victory target with more than 10 overs to spare.

Leverstock Green now move into the timed form of the game, and take on the other unbeaten side in the division, Radlett, in a top of the table clash at Cobden Hill next week.
