Match report A TREMENDOUSLY exciting game of U12s 10-a-side cricket ended in a tie at Castle Hill tonight when Ella Heath scrambled home for a bye off the final ball of the match to leave Berkhamsted and Leverstock Green all matched up on 275 runs apiece.

The Herts Junior League rules state a 20-points each tie when scores are level after deductions for wickets lost - and this reflects well on both sides who played their full part in an exciting game full of good cricketing moments served up by players from both sides.

Ella's direct-hit run-out kicked off another typically enthusiastic LGCC fielding performance, with U12 debutants Finlay Rennie and Callum Pillay (whose fine bowling was rewarded with a wicket) both getting stuck into the action alongside more seasoned Levy campaigners.

Ben Orriss returned the team's best bowling figures, claiming 1-2 from his two overs, with Callum's 1-8 from three overs definitely a close second. Given he's an U10 age player, Finlay can be mighty pleased with his two overs for nine runs and two not out with the bat later on in the game.

Set 276 to win, Green ticked over nicely across the first couple of pairs with a Lewis Cooper boundary and seven from Harry Walker the significant early contributions.

Ben Humphreys added impetus to the run chase with a well-crafted unbeaten 16 after Salman Saleem (7 not out) and skipper Jed Driver (6 not out) had kept the scoreboard ticking over.

An impressive caught-and-bowled by Berko's Finn looked as it might have been the late match-winning contribution, but Gez Yates and Ella kept their heads to fashion a run a ball for the game's last four balls - the last of which a bye to level the scores at 275 and send both sets of parents home happy with what they'd witnessed as the sun set over the Castle Hill ground.
