Match report LGCC Under-12s enjoyed their first win of the summer - bettering the previous tie at Berkhamsted to record a healthy win over Northchurch on a chilly night at The Green.

After winning the toss and following the time-honoured junior tradition of choosing to field first, the U12s' usual fielding prowess was sadly lacking; dropped catches and sloppy backing-up an unusual sight from this team, which they have already been tasked with correcting for the next fixture.

Things did pick up in the field, albeit through the dead-eye aim of Chloe Cooper with a direct-hit run-out, followed by two wickets for skipper Geraint Yates. Other dismissals were shared around - including one for Finlay Rennie, one for Chloe and a lustily-celebrated last-over bowled by Salman Saleem.

A dozen wides bowled was within reasonable paramaters as Northchurch amassed 231-10 from their 20 overs.

Sensible batting was the feature of the Green reply, with Salman hitting two pleasing boundaries in a productive opening pair with Jed Driver.

Jemma Cardy, having bowled very accurately, got on the scoreboard with two fine strikes. Then George Sharman, Ella Heath, Ben Humphreys and Finlay added some late-order gloss to the LGCC final total of 276-5 - aided somewhat by over 50 extras.

The Under-12s have been tasked with sharper and tidier cricket in general when they travel to face Bovingdon tomorrow.
