SENIOR CRICKET ROUND-UP - WEEK 9: 1s Topple Harpenden, Sawyer's Hat-Trick In Vain & 4s Win at West Herts & Revell's Top Ton Leads Sunday Success

09 Jul 2017

SAM REVELL hit his first century for LGCC - a magnificent 126 not out - as the club's Sunday SAWICC XI chased down 260 at Brentham for an impressive Chess Valley League Division Three win.

Revell was on the winning side twice at the weekend, as he was also part of the Saturday 1st XI's highly polished winning performance at top-of-the-table Harpenden II in Saracens Herts Premier Cricket League Division One.

Green racked up 235-8 on Harpenden Common, with Lewis Koch hitting a fine 78. He was supported by 51 from Miles Barnard and several smaller contributions.

In reply, Levy's spin duo Dave Tyson and Sol Tomlinson made the most of the dry conditions to pin Harpenden back. The pair took four wickets apiece - with Tomlinson's 4-26 from 9.2 overs the game's stand-out bowling contribution.

VICTORY looked a long way off in Ealing at Brentham CC on Sunday when the hosts posted 260-3 from their 45 overs - teenager Troy Henry bowled well to take two of the three wickets to fall.

But some breakneck running from Barnard (34) and Tomlinson (38) set a nine-an-over tempo for the run chase, carried on by Revell who mixed sensible running with some lusty blows during his ton.

He and skipper Lenny Walker - who posted 36 not out - enjoyed an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 100 as LGCC & SAWICC cruised to the target in less than 32 overs.

DAVE YOUNG's Saturday 4th XI continued their promotion push, maintaining second place in Regional Division C West with an eight-wicket defeat of West Herts VI.

Brett Baney took 3-18 with Will Rumble and Ian Wallis snaring two wickets apiece as the Watford-based hosts were skittled for 110.

Big-hitting Jonathan Chan (44 not out) was complemented in the run chase by small-hitting Mike Parkes, who finished on an unbeaten 37, as the pair rounded off a convincing win.

OLLY SAWYER'S brilliant hat-trick came in vain for Leverstock Green 3rd XI.

And Green 3s will be kicking themselves after allowing a match-winning position to escape them against table-topping Redbourn III in Division Nine.

Captain Gareth Tucker's middle-order 52 was backed up with 20-something scores from Graham Evans, Jamie Wallis, Aryan Tomar and Stuart Evans as Levy posted 188-8 from their 53 overs.

And with the opposition at 58-6, hopes were high of turning a number of recent draws into victory.

But a 100-plus seventh-wicket Redbourn partnership not only denied Levy 30 points but left them counting just bonus points as the visitors reached their target with seven balls to spare and with two wickets in hand.

LEVY 2nd XI only had themselves to blame after slipping to home defeat against Old Cholmeleians.

A sub-standard batting display was rescued to a degree by Connor Church, who hit 33, and Richard Walker (26) who put on 62 for the seventh wicket after Levy were reduced to 117-6 at one point.

Green's 180 all out never looked like being enough - and this view was compounded by a lacklustre effort with the ball and in the field as the Mill Hill visitors romped home with eight wickets in hand.
