CRICKET PREVIEW: Back The Boys As Season 2017 Nearing Exciting Finale

16 Aug 2017

IT'S all to play for just three weekends from the end of the 2017 cricket season at LGCC - with four of the five senior sides pushing for promotion.

Green's 1st XI are riding as high in the Saracens Herts Premier Cricket League structure as the side ever has in the club's history, and still have a chance of forcing their way into the Championship in 2018.

After a close-shave win at Stevenage last weekend, this Saturday Dayle Littlejohn's team host table-toppers Hemel Hempstead Town at The Green, with Harpenden II and Old Owens sitting between them and their local rivals in the Division One table.

Imran Iqbal's 2s travel to face Preston II at the picturesque north Herts ground today, currently sitting in third place and 10 points adrift of Old Haberdashers who occupy the second promotion slot behind St. Albans II.

In Division 9B, it looks like one or two wins could be needed to secure the divisional status of Gareth Tucker's 3rd XI after a recent run of disappointing results.

However in Regional Division C West, Dave Young's 4th XI are looking upwards. Securing one of the three top places will earn them either a one or two-division lift at season's end. They have two games remaining, so it'll be a nervous wait on September 2 as the other sides complete their league schedule.

And finally, on Sundays, the LGCC & SAWICC joint side sits fourth. They're looking to enhance their chances of breaking into one of the three promotion spots in Chess Valley League Division 3 with a home win over Parkfield & Headstone on Sunday at The Green. They'll need to win the final game of the summer as well, at Harpenden on September 3.

Good luck to all teams this weekend. We'll update progress early next week.
