PROMOTION AGAIN: For Sunday's LGCC & SAWICC XI In Chess Valley League

03 Sep 2017

THE joint team of LGCC & St. Albans West Indian engineered a second successive Chess Valley League promotion with a final-day win at Harpenden.

Sunday cricket after end-of-season celebrations the night before isnot for the faint-hearted, so fielding standards were somewhat short of par early on - but two timely wickets, just as Harps threatened to set a giant total, set the Sunday XI on their way with the hosts all out for 202.

In reply, Miles Barnard bade farewell to the UK in fine style with an unbeaten 74, Lewis Koch struck 67 and Sol Tomlinson rounded off a run-laden summer with 47 as Harpenden's total was reached for the loss of just two wickets.

The victory saw LGCC & SAWICC claim second place behind Ealing Hanwellians in Chess Valley League Division 3, so it's onwards and upwards in 2018 - should those involved in managing the team deem there to be sufficient grounds to continue with current arrangements.
