HERTS LEAGUE HEADLINERS - SAT JUNE 23: Goode Time For 2s & TC Tops For 3s On A Day For The Chase

24 Jun 2018

BEN GOODE'S blisteringly fast 71, Nahim Iqbal's unbeaten 89 and Tom Callingham's 85 meant it was two successful chases out of four for Leverstock Green in Saracens Herts League action.

The most remarkable run-rate came at The Green where Goode, needing to get away to a family gala dinner, opened the batting and racked up over 70 before 10 overs had been bowled by a bewildered Flamstead side who had earlier set Levy 2s a giant target of 291 for victory.

Goode's whirlwind dispatching of the ball to all parts at LGCC was followed up with Iqbal's composed 89 not out - topped off by a no-nonsense 64 from Ben Parkes as the 2nd XI chased down the total in less than 39 overs to move clear at the top of Division 4B.

SKIPPER Tom Callingham stepped up to the plate for the 3s, scoring 85 of the 208 required to see off the challenge of Preston III at Parmiter's School.

Ably supported by Aryan Tomar and Manav Gupta's middle-order contributions, Callingham provided the backbone of a reply to a score kept in check to some degree by a fine bowling performance from young Troy Henry who returned figures of 3-27 from his 10 overs.

LGCC 1s will feel they could have done better than have to settle for a winning draw away at Langleybury.

A triumphant post-Ramadan return to action from Majid Khan yielded the mercurial seamer figures of 4-70 from a maximum 20 overs

Both Valance Morris and Charlie Mahanama bowled with good control to help restrict hosts Bury to 227-7 from their 60 overs.

In reply, Lewis Koch's 47 turned out to be the Green innings' highest score; with both Nick Merrett (35) and Mahanama (30) threatening to go bigger than they did.

Levy's lower order kept up the scrap for victory, but ran out of deliveries and wickets to end on 209-9 from 55 overs.

AT the same venue, LGCC 4s were shown little mercy by their Langleybury IV hosts - who benefited from their club's 2s not having a fixture to field a strong side.

The hosts posted 203-5 from their 40 overs, with Luke Carl picking up two of the wickets to fall.

Veteran Dave Cardy top-scored for Levy in reply with 33 as a run chase never threatened to materialise after the relatively quick loss of the first four wickets.

Green will have been pleased to pick up at least a few bonus points by reaching 138-9 at the close.
