LGCC WHAT'S ON - OCTOBER & NOVEMBER: Live Music x 2, Live World Cup Rugby, Quiz Night, Tea@The Green & more...

20 Oct 2023

WE'VE got plenty for everyone in the coming weeks at The Green - and that's before the 'Xmas At LGCC' events that make up December's offerings kick in.

So here's what we've got lined up during October & November and some dates for your Christmas diary, too...

++++++
SAT OCT 21, 8.00PM - SATURDAY SOCIAL DOUBLE-BILL AT LGCC: Live World Cup Rugby followed by Live Music from 'Scratch'

To accommodate everyone's preferences, we'll be both showing World Cup Rugby and have live music at LGCC this Saturday evening!

So it's a quick alteration to the plan for this weekend:
+ 7.15pm Bar opens
+ 8:00pm: World Cup Rugby semi-final - England v South Africa
+ 9.15pm approx: Live music from 'Scratch'

We'll show England's Rugby World Cup semi-final clash v South Africa (8pm start) with our live music from 'Scratch' following directly on after the end of the game.

The bar will be open from around 7.15pm for the sporting action, with our £3 Guinness offer still running!

Please be early if you wish to be seated as we'll also be accommodating band set-up before the start of the rugby.

Thanks to 'Scratch' for their understanding and agreeing for a later start to their set - which should be the perfect way to end your Saturday evening, with their mix of covers from the full 80s, 90s and 00s era.

With more live music to come in both November and December, this weekend is the perfect way to start the winter social events at LGCC.

Free to attend with no advance booking required, members should feel welcome to bring along family & friends for a great time. Please arrive early if you can!

SUN NOV 5 - MONTHLY QUIZ NIGHT
Continuing in its regular first-Sunday-of-the-month slot, you're welcome once again to Leverstock Green's Monthly Quiz Night.

There'll be some specially-themed rounds to mark Guy Fawkes Night, as well as plenty of other light-hearted material to keep you puzzling.

Starting at 7.45pm, with the clubhouse and bar open from around 7.00pm, it's time to put those thinking caps for a mix of different rounds with nothing too intellectually heavyweight or off-putting.

Quiz teams can be formed of any number you'd like to bring. The entry fee of £2 per person is divided between the top performers. New players are always very welcome - either as a whole team, or as individuals joining others.

TUE NOV 7 - CHRIS LAWRANCE'S BANJO BASH: Bar 8.00pm, Music 8.30pm
Chris Lawrance and his merry band of fiddlers, pluckers and strummers are back once again - returning to their usual first-Tuesday-of-the-month slot.

Keeping that bluegrass and traditional sound very much live, musical maestros based locally and beyond treat LGCC members to the sound of old-time with some foot-tapping numbers that are sure to put a smile on your face.

The gang usually get going from around 8.15pm at the latest. Come along and have a drink while you sit back and enjoy the good stuff.

THU NOV 9 & THU NOV 23 (every second & fourth Thursday of the month) - T@THEGREEN: Join Us For A Cuppa & A Chat - Free Community Event, All Welcome
The fantastic community-focused fixture that is T@TheGreen continues into the Autumn months here at LGCC.

And organiser Julia recently updated us on the project's progress...

"We've now been running for two years and have regular numbers between 30 and 40," she explained.

"A huge thanks to all donations which - aside from buying tea & coffee, biscuits and milk - have allowed us to contribute towards utility costs at the cricket club and donate to good causes like over £300 to local food bank via DENS and £120 to Rennie Grove Hospice At Home through our Christmas raffle."

Julia added: "Many thanks to my lovely friends Kathy, Barbara and Anne - and recently Jackie - who help with everything during the sessions.

"A friendly face and a chat can do a power of good."

So there you have it; our community get-together,  between 10am and 12noon on every second and fourth Thursday morning of each month, is a chance for folk to simply pop into the clubhouse for a cup of tea or coffee and have a chat with other local people - some of whom may really appreciate the chance to spend time in the company of like-minded others.

Completely free to attend and personally hosted, everyone in the local community is welcome to pop by or stay for the whole two hours; whichever is most appealing.

Have a chat with other folk from around the village and surrounding areas, or simply sit back, relax and take in the calming view across The Green from our bright and airy clubhouse facility - while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and some light refreshments.

SAT NOV 11, 9.00PM - SATURDAY SOCIAL AT LGCC: Live Music from 'Hope n Glory' (Ska & Two-Tone Tribute)
Returning to LGCC to keep you all skanking to their sounds, it's the superb 'Hope n Glory'.

They are a Ska & Two-Tone tribute band, playing all the big hits from the genre within that 1970s & 80s sweet-spot era.

The songs are still big sounds today, so this is a generation of music where popularity really does endure.

Again, free to attend with no advance booking is required, members should feel welcome to bring family & friends along for a great time!

The gig is set to kick off around 9pm but earlier arrivals are advised. It was packed for them last time - so no reason to believe it won't be busy again.
