LEVERSTOCK GREEN CC was proud to host the Herts Junior League County Cup Finals Day for the Under-15 age group on Sunday July 14.

With the weather showing unusual kindness throughout the day, four clubs competed in two semi-finals - Letchworth Garden Cty beat Shenley Village and West Herts beat Berkhamsted - before the showpiece final produced a thrilling finish.

Although the day ended in disappointment for the England football team, there were far more cheers than tears for Letchworth Garden City CC on the field of play as their Under-15 team took the county honours for 2024.

They set West Herts a mighty 177 for glory, and the game looked a dead rubber half-way through the chase.

But some late big-hitting left the Watford-based club needing 12 from the final over. They could only manage five, meaning a seven-run Letchworth victory.

Thanks to all those LGCC volunteers who worked from early morning to late evening to ensure clubs were well hosted and that the whole day represented to best effect why The Green really is the heartbeat of the community it serves.
