SATURDAYS FROM 12NOON - CRICKET ON THE GREEN: Herts League action continues through August

Plenty of members are keen to show their support for LGCC's senior cricket teams, and the chance to do so continues through August and as far as the first Saturday in September.

It's a 12noon start each week on The Green (Aug 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31 and Sep 7). The 1st XI are in the hunt for promotion from Division One, while the 2nd XI are battling to retain their hard-earned Division 4A status.

The LGCC clubhouse is open from 11am, showing the most prominent live sport on the two screens, with the bar typically open by 3pm at the latest.

Thanks in advance for your support.

TUE AUG 6 & EVERY TUESDAY MORNING - TAI CHI (QIGONG) SESSIONS: 10.30am to 11.30am
Targeted especially at senior members, enjoy something quite different at LGCC, as local instructor Fiona Walsh leads you through two free taster sessions of Tai Chi (Qigong).

These are gentle, strengthening easy movements which are perfect for beginners. Even better, you can stand or sit - as preferred - while taking part.

There's no need to book. Simply come along on a Tuesday morning, with £5 payable upon arrival.

Give it a try. Many have and are already really enjoying it.

THU AUG 8 & THU AUG 22 (& every second & fourth Thursday of the month) - T@THEGREEN: Join Us For A Cuppa & A Chat - Free Community Event, All Welcome
LGCC's community-focused offering T@TheGreen continues...

As Tea@TheGreen continues, local people - some of whom may really appreciate the chance to spend time in the company of like-minded others - have been able to gather between 10.00am and 12noon twice a month for a cuppa and a chat.

Completely free to attend and personally hosted, everyone in the local community is welcome to pop by or stay for the whole two hours; whichever is most appealing.

Have a chat with other folk from around the village and surrounding areas, or simply sit back, relax and take in the calming view across The Green from our bright and airy clubhouse facility - while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and some light refreshments.

SUN AUG 11 & THEN SUN SEP 1 - MONTHLY GENERAL KNOWLEDGE QUIZ NIGHT
Back a week from its usual first-Sunday-of-the-month slot, it's Quiz time at LGCC on the evening of Sunday August 11.

The clubhouse usually opens between 7pm and 7.15pm, with the aim to start between 7.30pm and 7.45pm.

The quizzes are set and designed to be quite informal and not too heavyweight; so they should appeal to a broad range of people among the LGCC membership.

Quiz teams can be formed of any number you'd like to bring. The entry fee of £2 per person is divided between the top performers. New participants are always very welcome - either as a whole team, or as individuals joining others.

The Monthly Quiz Night then returns to its usual slot, so will be back on Sunday September 1.

THURSDAY EVENINGS (returns Aug 22) - YOGA & RELAXATION SESSION: Yoga 6.30pm, Bar 8.00pm
Come along and enjoy a relaxed yoga session under the watchful eye of a qualified tutor, every Thursday evening inside the LGCC clubhouse.

Mats are available to use should you not possess your own, and the group often stay behind for a quick drink after the clubhouse opens to others at 8.00pm.

Co-ordinator Glennis Taylor will be only too happy to welcome you along to a friendly group of like-minded folk. Please contact her for more information as sessions are sporadic during the junior cricket season: 07778 797475.

SAT AUG 24 - LIVE MUSIC AT LGCC: 'The Silver Searchers'
Playing live once again at The Green, 'The Silver Searchers' will bring their Merseybeat and Swinging Sixties tribute show for the enjoyment of members and their guests.

As with all the bands we have here inside LGCC's clubhouse, the latest you should expect them to start is 9.00pm.

But they're sometimes off & underway a little sooner so it's always worth making 8.30pm your latest arrival time - especially if you're looking to secure seats for your group.

TUE SEP 3 - CHRIS'S BANJO BASH: Bar 8.00pm, Music 8.15pm
Enjoy the foot-tapping sounds of bluegrass and old-time music courtesy of Chris Lawrance and his gang of maestros.

The monthly Banjo Bash takes place every first Tuesday of the calendar month, with instruments strumming from around 8.15pm.

The bar is open for you to enjoy a drink while listening to a group of talented musicians keep some really traditional sounds alive - sure to put a smile on your face.

Taking a break for holidays during August, the group will undoubtedly be back in great form come September 3.

FRI SEP 6 - FRIDAY SOCIAL AT LGCC: Cash Prize Bingo
If you're numbers are up, then you'll be a winner at The Green with the return of 'Cash Prize Bingo' for a little bit of a Friday social.

We're hoping to run Bingo a little more often during winter months on Friday evenings, so let's see how this one goes.

Please bring a little cash with you as it's the easiest way to accept entry money and then pay out prizes during the evening.

We'll look to start at around 8.15pm, so please feel free to bring along family & friends for a fun night.

It's good for you...and that's Doctor's orders (No. 9)!

SAT SEP 7 - LGCC SENIOR CRICKET: End-Of-Season Awards & Party Night
We'll present awards to recognise senior cricket achievements during season 2024 inside the LGCC clubhouse after all teams have made it back to The Green.

Saturday September 7 marks the final round of 18 weeks of Herts League fixtures, so regardless of the outcome for each of the sides, after the awards it's end-of-season party time.

All LGCC members are welcome to join for what is always a lively evening, with music from our resident DJs and a bit of a Sing-a-Long if there's stuff to celebrate!

++++++
SUN SEP 8 - LGCC JUNIOR CRICKET: End-Of-Season Awards Afternoon
With fingers crossed for weather as kind as at a similar time last year, LGCC's Junior Awards for season 2024 will take place from 4.30pm on Sunday September 8.

There'll be a memento for ALL juniors - regardless of the level of their involvement in training and/or matches - to say thanks from the club for being part of it this summer.

Our favourite Pizza Van will be on site from around 3.30pm, with fresh, stone-baked pizzas available from the van's usual spot under the oak trees just outside the clubhouse (Note: they sold out quickly during Cricket Week, so don't be late on parade!).

The awards event sees each age group coach give a quick recap of their season, before individual mementoes are handed out. Then it's on to team special awards, and finally the special awards covering all age groups at the end of the prizegiving.

++++++
SAT SEP 14 - LIVE MUSIC AT LGCC: 'Scratch'
They had the LGCC clubhouse jumping last time they played here, so it's a big welcome back to 80s, 90s, 00s & Indie covers band 'Scratch'.

The four-piece rock group will once again play live at The Green on Saturday September 14, with members very welcome to bring along family & friends.

As with all the bands we have here inside LGCC's clubhouse, the latest you should expect them to start is 9.00pm.

But they're sometimes off & underway a little sooner so it's always worth making 8.30pm your latest arrival time - especially if you're looking to secure seats for your group.

WED SEP 18 - DARTS SPECIAL EVENT: 'The Roger White Memorial Cup' To Provide Summer Focal Point

While darts in some form - matches, practise or in-house competitions - continues through the summer, the undoubted highlight of the next couple of months will be the hosting of 'The Roger White Memorial Cup' knockout stages.

Taking place at LGCC on Wednesday September 18, this showpiece newly-named competition remembers the sizeable contribution to both darts at our club and within the local area made by the late Roger White - a hugely popular member and player at The Green.

Do come along and show your support to LGCC's darting fraternity on the evening, when the knockout stages - including the final - will take place, before Angela White presents the trophy to the winner.

To get involved and find out more about our two Darts teams, please contact Darts Secretary Roy Makins on 07312 080302.

++++++
LIVE SPORT ON THE BIG SCREENS
Remember if there's a major sporting event on a midweek evening or Sunday afternoon, we'll be showing it live on the two big screens inside the LGCC clubhouse.

With full subscriptions to both Sky Sports and TNT Sports, you can swap pounds saved for drinks at The Green while taking in the action alongside fellow club members and their guests.

SUGGESTIONS?
If you have any ideas relating to social events you'd like to see LGCC host, or would be keen to put something on yourself, please feel free to contact Social Events Co-Ordinator Sandra Malloy on 07515 458861.

And another reminder, please, to all patrons that smoking and vaping is not permitted within LGCC's clubhouse. LGCC management committee members reserve the right to ask those disrespecting this request to leave the premises immediately.

That's it for now. We look forward to providing a warm welcome at The Green whenever you're next calling in.
