WHAT'S ON AT LGCC - OCT & NOV 2024: Magic Show For Kids, Try On For '25, Live Music From Pat & The Butchers, Bingo Night, Poker Night and much more...
11 Oct 2024
THERE'S plenty happening at The Green across the next few weeks, and we dearly hope something which will appeal to you and your family & friends; brightening these Autumn months with a visit to LGCC is, we're hoping, always something to look forward to.
Listed below firstly are our feature events, followed by the more regular activities further down the page.
++++++
FRI OCT 25 (6.30pm) - FOR THE KIDS: Mr Marvel's Magic Show
The locally-renowned Mr Marvel will be bringing his magic show to The Green on Friday October 25, with a nice early start for youngsters of 6.30pm (for roughly 90 minutes).
The show is aimed at those in primary school years - but is sure to wow older kids and parents, too. It might even be good enough to get adults to look up from their phones from the back of the room, albeit momentarily, although the bar will also be open.
The clubhouse naturally has a limited floor space for such an event, so if you're able to reply to confirm attendance then that would be very helpful.
There's no charge to come along and enjoy a bit of Friday magic to get kids in the Hallowe'en mood, but if you do say you're coming then can't make it, please be kind enough to let us know before the event.
We're expecting this one to prove really popular. Young club members are welcome to bring one friend along with them as an additional guest.
++++++
FRI OCT 25 (8.00pm ish) - LGCC JUNIOR CRICKET: Try On For '25
Once the magic show has finished, there'll be another chance for LGCC's junior players to try on next season's new-style playing shirt - which will be offered at a subsidised rate to young cricketers as part of season 2025's annual subscription payment.
We've got all ten sizes within the range to try on, starting at the smallest of junior shirts to the biggest of adult options.
Please ensure you see a member of the LGCC Junior coaching team to tell them your size before you leave the clubhouse.
Bar open for parents while juniors dither over their selection!
++++++
FRI NOV 1 (8.00pm) - FRIDAY SOCIAL AT LGCC: Cash Prize Bingo Night
It's eyes down for a Cash Prize Bingo Night - now locked in for Friday November 1 after the planned early Autumn date had to be revised.
To keep things simple for prizes, please bring some cash along for your entry fees.
There'll be plenty of chances to win with the usual line and full house calls - plus some other spot-prizes along the way.
You can bring your own 'Bingo Dabber / Marker' if you wish, but we'll have some for you to use on the night.
We'll be starting at around 'One Fat Lady' (8.00pm) and finishing around Maggie's Den (10.00pm)!
See you there for some family fun. Bring friends and family (including children); all very welcome.
++++++
FRI NOV 15 (7.30pm) - FRIDAY SOCIAL AT LGCC: Cash Prize Poker Night
After a successful first such evening recently, it's another chance to pit your card-based wits against fellow LGCC members and guests.
There's a £20 cash entry fee upon arrival, with cash prizes heading towards the winner and runner-up on the night.
The LGCC clubhouse & bar will be open from 7.00pm onwards.
To confirm your attendance, please message Bar Manager Graham Evans on 07850 749256.
++++++
FRI NOV 29 (8.30pm) - LIVE MUSIC AT LGCC: Pat And The Butchers (pop/rock covers band)
Well-known locally but yet to feature at LGCC, 'Pat And The Butchers' will put that unwanted record right when they play live at The Green on Friday November 29.
It's free entry - as always. We will be welcoming members, their family and friends; don't hesitate about introducing new people to our welcoming venue. We're always looking to increase our ever-growing membership.
A pop & rock covers band, P & the B are guaranteed to get you singing along and probably dancing along to some of your favourite hits.
The LGCC clubhouse & bar will be open from 7.30pm onwards.
++++++
And here's a run-down on our more regular LGCC clubhouse usage...
++++++
MONDAY & WEDNESDAY EVENINGS WEEKLY - DARTS: typically 8.00pm start
LGCC runs two separate Darts teams during winter months, representing the club on each of Monday and Wednesday evenings in local league and cup competitions.
And it's a new-look through now at LGCC thanks to Skechers, whose smart vinyl now provides a stylish back-drop to the dart board and bespoke surround in Darts corner.
With a home-and-away fixture schedule, it's worth checking out the 'Events' section of the club's website to see when the next action is set to take place at The Green.
The teams are always happy to welcome new players. Darts Secretary Roy Makins is the person to contact initially, for a chat: 07312 080302.
++++++
TUE OCT 22 & EVERY TUESDAY MORNING - TAI CHI (QIGONG) SESSIONS: 10.30am to 11.30am
Targeted especially at senior members, enjoy something quite different at LGCC, as local instructor Fiona Walsh leads you through two free taster sessions of Tai Chi (Qigong).
These are gentle, strengthening easy movements which are perfect for beginners. Even better, you can stand or sit - as preferred - while taking part.
There's no need to book. Simply come along on a Tuesday morning, with £5 payable upon arrival.
Give it a try. Many have and are already really enjoying it.
++++++
THU OCT 24 (& every second & fourth Thursday of the month) - T@THEGREEN: Join Us For A Cuppa & A Chat - Free Community Event, All Welcome
LGCC's community-focused offering T@TheGreen continues...
As Tea@TheGreen continues, local people - some of whom may really appreciate the chance to spend time in the company of like-minded others - have been able to gather between 10.00am and 12noon twice a month for a cuppa and a chat.
Completely free to attend and personally hosted, everyone in the local community is welcome to pop by or stay for the whole two hours; whichever is most appealing.
Have a chat with other folk from around the village and surrounding areas, or simply sit back, relax and take in the calming view across The Green from our bright and airy clubhouse facility - while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and some light refreshments.
+++++++
THURSDAY EVENINGS WEEKLY - YOGA & RELAXATION SESSION: Yoga 6.30pm, Bar 8.00pm
Come along and enjoy a relaxed yoga session under the watchful eye of a qualified tutor, every Thursday evening inside the LGCC clubhouse.
Mats are available to use should you not possess your own, and the group often stay behind for a quick drink after the clubhouse opens to others at 8.00pm.
There's a new session organiser and a new coach for the group, so do feel free to come along, say hello and get involved.
++++++
SUN NOV 3 - MONTHLY GENERAL KNOWLEDGE QUIZ NIGHT
It's Quiz Time once again. Hooray!
The clubhouse usually opens between 7pm and 7.15pm, with the aim to start between 7.30pm and 7.45pm.
The quizzes are set and designed to be quite informal and not too heavyweight; so they should appeal to a broad range of people among the LGCC membership and beyond.
Quiz teams can be formed of any number you'd like to bring. The entry fee of £2 per person is divided between the top performers. New participants are always very welcome - either as a whole team, or as individuals joining others.
Following this November Quiz Night, there'll be a festive special taking place on Sunday December 1, for what will be the last quiz of 2024.
++++++
TUE NOV 5 - CHRIS'S BANJO BASH: Bar 7.45pm, Music 8.15pm
Enjoy the foot-tapping sounds of bluegrass and old-time music courtesy of Chris Lawrance and his gang of maestros.
The monthly Banjo Bash takes place every first Tuesday of the calendar month, with instruments strumming from around 8.15pm.
The bar is open for you to enjoy a drink while listening to a group of talented musicians keep some really traditional sounds alive - and it's sure to put a smile on your face.
After November 5, the group will return in December (date TBC) for their Christmas special - not to be missed!
++++++
LIVE SPORT ON THE BIG SCREENS
Remember, if there's a major sporting event on a midweek evening or Sunday afternoon, we'll be showing it live on the two big screens inside the LGCC clubhouse.
With full subscriptions to both Sky Sports and TNT Sports, you can swap pounds saved for drinks at The Green while taking in the action alongside fellow club members and their guests.
++++++
SUGGESTIONS?
If you have any ideas relating to social events you'd like to see LGCC host, or would be keen to put something on yourself, please feel free to contact Social Events Co-Ordinator Sandra Malloy on 07515 458861.
That's it for now. We look forward to providing a warm welcome at The Green whenever you're next calling in.
