LGCC INTRODUCING - SQUIRE ESTATES: The Jeanette Squire Story

10 Feb 2025

LGCC is delighted to further introduce to its members Jeanette Squire - the force behind Squire Estates, our proud Junior Cricket sponsor...

The personal touch. Customer service. People-focused behaviour. Describe it how you wish. The fact that Jeanette Squire has put her name to her own business for over a decade should tell you all you need to know about her approach.

The image of the estate agency industry has over past times been one of sharp suits, sharp talk and even sharp practises.

Yet a conversation with Jeanette dispels all those myths and means the LGCC management team is delighted to recommend their personalised customer service to all its members.

"We opened our doors in 2002 and became fully independent in 2011, " Jeanette proudly states of Squire Estates, a company that originally majored in lettings but now boasts thriving sales and lettings departments.

"It takes hard work and dedication to develop your business in what's a very competitive industry, so I'm really proud of my team – some of whom have been here from very near the start."

Squire Estates do everything in-house offering a “one-stop shop” including: sales progression, property management and administration, landlord accounts, maintenance and inspections.

Unusual? You bet. Most Estate Agents will run a lot of the above disciplines from centralised hubs which can be hundreds of miles away from the relevant properties, and make you feel like just a number – not a person.

So what's behind Jeanette's outstanding success in what's acknowledged as one of the most competitive industries?

"When I was young, I worked as an estate agent for a couple of years – at Oakwood Properties in Hemel – and I really loved it," Jeanette explains.

“So, when a few years later after a period working for an IT company in the city the opportunity arose to start my own agency in conjunction with friends already in the industry, I grabbed it."

Working alone for six days per week initially, Jeanette’s success led to business growth and a steady addition of staff numbers…from that initial count of one to the current head count of 13.

“What I found more than anything during that time in 2002 was that there was a massive gap in the market for an agent that provided good customer service; there was definitely room for an agent that offered something really much more personal and caring.

"We started off just doing lettings, growing it and ensuring we were really good at everything that entails. But after six or seven years, landlords starting to ask why they needed to walk down the road to another agent to sell their properties. 'Why can't you sell it for me?', They were right – and it prompted us to evolve.

“Right from the beginning, we have had a good profile as a letting agent and for customer service and because of that we've got a lot of loyal landlords; some that we started working with during those first two or three years who are still with us now. Not only do they appreciate the service they get from us but, crucially, they also know their tenants are going to get great service as well.

"We wanted to ensure this reputation we'd worked hard to earn among both tenants and landlords wouldn't in any way be compromised and that we could offer the same level of service to our vendors when we market their properties for sale," Jeanette says.

Since 2008 Sales has been just as much at the heart of the operation and a personal touch extends across both the sales & lettings areas of the Squire Estates business.

"We've got a sales team of five. They contact everybody regularly, spending just that little bit of extra time to understand clients’ needs and wishes and always updating vendors with the very latest feedback from viewings and other conversations.

"We go above and beyond for all our clients; when they push open our office door and walk in they know they're going to get great service.”

So please do pay Jeanette and her team a visit on Marlowes at the top of town (opposite Dacorum BC offices). They'll be delighted to have a chat. And, of course, mention you're an LGCC member when you do.

Quite appropriately, the last words go to Jeanette...

"Don't worry about walking through the door. Or feel free to call me. I'll come round and have a chat; it might be just advice, taking that first step or those next steps in whatever property journey you're on.

"I can't give financial advice as we're not a finance agency, but I'm happy to talk about your situation. Maybe you're thinking about a move, or your house is now too big or too small for you. If you left, where would you go? What happens next? Let's have a chat.

"It's great to be associated with such a welcoming and community-focused club. I've found the people here are really kind and very warm. That's just how our personal service is, and I think the success of both organisations is based on that generosity of spirit."
