IN MEMORIAM: Peter Humphrey (1943 - 2025)

08 Apr 2025

LEVERSTOCK GREEN CC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Life Vice-President Peter Humphrey, aged 81.

A highly-respected and popular figure at The Green, long-standing member Pete's latter years saw him enjoy regular weekly card schools on both Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons with a warm-hearted group of friends.

Yet his association dates back as far as 1979, when Pete and son Tony were introduced to the club by LGCC cricketer and PE teacher Nigel Merrett - who, at that time, was teaching at the Halsey School.

From that point blossomed a love for the club and its many varied activities within Pete - a passion he shared with wife Jacquie across the decades that followed.

Whether it was helping out on the bar, cleaning up the day after a big night, partying with fellow members, playing darts or simply watching cricket, Pete's wish for the club to thrive was always evident in both his actions and his freely-expressed forthright views.

Among the many endeavours which earned Pete the prestigious Faulkner Trophy - awarded for an outstanding contribution to LGCC life - was his long spell as Membership Secretary, separately recognised by the club's committee, where he made a lasting contribution towards the growing membership base the club enjoys today.

He is survived by wife Jacquie, sons Paul & Tony as well as two teenage grandchildren, Callum & Charlotte.

Rest In Peace - with much love, thoughts & prayers for Pete's family from everyone at LGCC.
