RETURN OF THE KING: Alex Set For Fourth & Final LGCC Season

01 Dec 2025

WICKETKEEPING all-rounder Alex King - undoubtedly ranking as one of the club's greatest ever overseas players - is set for an emotional return to The Green for summer 2026.

Wife Georgia and young daughter Billie will join him on this pilgrimage back to Leverstock Green CC; the club which benefited from his presence as a fabulous cricketer and impressive young man across three different seasons: 2010, 2012 and 2013.

Now 35, Sheffield (Tasmania) CC's 'AK47' is taking a long leave of absence from his role as General Manager of Community Cricket for Cricket Tasmania to fulfil a dream of returning to the UK, as well as exploring Europe with his family.

His passion for coaching and developing junior players has seen him rise through the ranks at Cricket Tas after first joining the organisation in 2008. And indeed wife Georgia is a player-coach at Sheffield CC, too. She's also keen to feature for the club in Herts League cricket action.

Alex was one of a number of high-quality overseas players LGCC was fortunate to have on board from the rich seam of talent across Tasmania's north-west coast cricket scene.

After scoring over 800 (479 Herts League) runs in 2010, his first summer at The Green, he returned two years later to amass 793 Herts League runs (including a best of 146 not out) at an average of 41.74 - part of a seriously impressive overall haul of 1,141.

Alex's contributions continued in 2013, with nearly 400 more league runs at 39.80, before a work promotion took him back home half-way through the season.

"I’m thrilled to be rejoining the Leverstock Green Cricket family for another summer," said Alex, who first arrived on these shores at the tender age of 19.

"I have some great memories at this club, and being able to share this experience with Georgia and Billie this time around makes it special."

LGCC chair Mike Parkes said: "Our own Cricket Manager Rich Walker and Alex have been working on this for many months in the background, from the first moment he expressed an interest in returning.

"It'll be incredible for the club to welcome Alex back again, along with his family. His infectious personality will have a hugely positive impact on the field of play, and we're all just as excited about how much his coaching expertise will help our junior players enjoy their cricket and flourish during next summer."

Alex added: "The idea of spending another season out on The Green with great people is something I’m really excited about.

"I can’t wait to get stuck in, help the juniors develop their skills and have some fun along the way."
