SATURDAY SPECIAL: All Four Teams Victorious!

30 Jun 2013

DO not adjust your web browser setttings, it really did happen. For the first time in many years, all four LGCC Saturday XIs won on the same day - and there was a hat-trick thrown in for good measure!

Veteran Dave Cardy cleaned up the Hatfield Hyde III tail, taking the last three of his four wickets in consecutive balls as the 4s took out a low target to win by eight wickets.

And in fact all four victories came chasing runs - that certainly can't have happened very often since Green took up Herts League action.

Both the 1st and 3rd XIs recorded their maiden League win of the summer. The 1s knocked off Cockfosters' target of 154 on The Green in Division Two to win by eight wickets, while the Division Nine 3s passed Pirton's 129 with three wickets in hand.

With those three games finished, this left the 2nd XI the task of completing the quartet chasing a target of 251 away to Old Cholmeleians.

After a fine stand between Dayle Littlejohn (43) and Nick Merrett (71), it was the clean striking of Imran Iqbal - who hit 72 from 37 deliveries, including a 21-ball 50 - which powered Green over the line with seven balls to spare.

All four wins were celebrated with a President's jug, a new song from Walker and a 'Stump Race' back at The Green - won by the 1st XI quintet pictured here.

All in all, a great day for LGCC.
