HERTS LEAGUE ROUND-UP - WEEK 8: KJ Ton, A Pair of 70s & Shotgun Hat-Trick Headline Three-Win Day

28 Jun 2015

KRIS JADEJA'S imperious 128, 70 apiece for Ajit Kumar & Rory Fleming, 50 from Sam Revell and 7-37  including a hat-trick - albeit in vain - for 3s seamer Steve May were the chief headline-makers on Herts League matchday 8.

Let's start at Woodside where Dayle Littlejohn's 1s put Watford Town to the sword. With 14 fours and five 6s, Jadeja dispatched the host's bowling to all parts on his way to a 108-ball 128.

He put on 156 with Ajit Kumar, who hit 70, after Green found themselves at 78-3 with only Miles Barnard's 44 to show for their early efforts.

Thanks to some fine stroke-making, Littlejohn enjoyed the luxury of a 48-over declaration with the score at 295-5.

And then the seam duo of Majid Khan (5-28) and Adam Thomas (5-44) shared the Town wickets evenly, thanks in part to three Lewis Koch slip catches, to record an emphatic success.

AN unbeaten 70 from Rory Fleming was the clear Levy 4th XI highlight as they claimed a four-wicket win at home to table-toppers Watford Town V.

Fleming snr helped give the run chase some early impetus with 23, however it was 'Cubicle' - in at No. 3 - who stuck around to see Green home.

Earlier in the day, 4s captain Greg Coulshed returned figures of 4-35 and there were two dismissals apiece for Dom Clarke, Andy Welch and Dave Cardy as Town were removed for 139.

A STRONG all-round performance saw Green's 2nd XI record a seven-wicket home win against Hertford III.

Sam Mazurek charged down the slope to bowl with pace and accuracy for his 3-40 from 10 overs. Then Lee Littlejohn took care of the visitor's middle order with 4-41 to help restrict Hertford to 160 all out.

All five Levy batsmen to take to the crease in reply made meaningful contributions, with opener David Coulshed's patient 35 proving a key anchor knock.

Luke Weston (25) and Nick Merrett (28 not out) also chipped in but it was the late hitting of Sam Revell which brought proceedings to a swift close. He heaved four sixes in what proved the game's last over, the final ball bringing up the win and 50 not out for from 42 balls faced.

Congratulations to 'Shotgun' Steve May: 7-37 including a hat-trick.

POOR Steve May was left feeling like he didn't want to celebrate a special individual achievement after Green 3s tossed away the chance of 30 points at Flitwick III with a win in clear view.

'Shotgun' took a hat-trick to wrap up the opposition tail and, in doing so, recorded figures of 7-37. His stellar contribution wasn't backed up by colleagues with the bat, however.

With victory seemingly well in sight at 91-2, the 3rd XI batting collapsed. They went from 91-2 to 113 all out, four runs short of their host's target, with the only meaningful contributions coming from top-order pair Tom Callingham (36) and Graham Evans (33).
