HERTS LEAGUE ROUND-UP - WEEK 15: Skippers' Efforts In Vain Across Three Defeats

16 Aug 2015

BRETT BANEY, Jamie Wallis and Dayle Littlejohn all put in captain's performances for their teams - but to no avail, as all three LGCC sides in Saturday Herts League action went down to defeat.

Third XI skipper Baney took 5-19 from just shy of 10 overs as Green 3s dismissed Cockfosters IV for 194. Steve May and Lewis Glasscoe each claimed two wickets apiece.

Levy's reply was a relatively dismal one, falling over 90 runs short of the target. May top-scored in a rare cameo opening the batting with 22, while captain Baney returned the next-highest contribution of 16 not out from No. 11.

A LATE-ORDER batting collapse prevented Levy 2nd XI from amassing a more sizeable total than the reasonable 181 all out they posted from 50 overs at Ampthill Town II.

Skipper Jamie Wallis's 46 at the top of the order and No. 4 Gareth Tucker's 38 formed the backbone of the innings which saw Green's final five wickets fall all too cheaply.

The target proved well within range for the Bedfordshire-based hosts, however. Dom Clarke picked up a couple of dismissals but Ampthill got home comfortably, five wickets down with nearly 20 overs to spare.

DAYLE LITTLEJOHN'S 1st XI maintained their position at the top of Division 2A - but only just, thanks to bonus points, after nearest challengers Radlett II won a tense game at The Green.

Put into bat, Levy struggled to 153 all out in the drying conditions. Littlejohn (36) and Kris Jadeja - who scored 47 - put on a decent partnership for the third wicket but only Ajit Kumar (23) was thereafter able to resist Radlett's effective bowling.

Less impressive bowling than in recent weeks, and some dropped chances, meant that Green couldn't prevent the visitors from reaching the target for the loss of seven wickets - four of which garnered for 26 runs from 10 overs by Littlejohn.

With 10 bonus points accrued, the result left Green three points clear of Radlett II in the race for the Division 2A title. The top two go up to Division 1, meaning third-placed Northwood are still very much involved in the promotion battle.
