A PITIFULLY weak top-order batting display by Leverstock Green effectively blew a very real chance of a Herts County Cup shock at Home Counties Premier Division Two East outfit Sawbridgeworth.
It wasn’t until Dave Tyson – in red-hot form with the bat – entered the fray at number seven, that Green’s chances of overhauling Sawbo’s modest 178 took a turn for the better.
Tyson’s imperious 64, ably supported by Jordan Parkes (19), only came to an end because he ran out of partners - a symptom of some miserable earlier batting which saw only Charlie Mahanama (30) reach double figures from Levy’s top six.
Earlier, excellent fielding backed up Levy’s bowlers to restrict Sawbridgeworth to 178 all out.
Green really turned the screw in the field by taking regular wickets against the Home Counties hosts. Sam Mazurek’s hostile 10-over spell yielded three key dismissals while Parkes also starred with the ball, garnering four for 25 from eight overs of his occasional medium pace.
