Allenburys v Leverstock Green Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 02 Jun 2012 at 1pm
Match was Drawn
Match report
Whilst a very different team to the previous week, the 3's were confident particularly with their bowling and asked Allenburys to bat first. From very early on it was evident that it may not be their day. There were more 'edges than at Hampton Court , none of which seemed to go to hand.Yes there were also some dropped catches which could have changed the course of the match, but the effort put in by bowlers and fielders alike was unquestionable. Fielders felt confident that if they shouted out 'bowled Bretty' at any moment in the innings, it was probably going to be relevant, as Brett Baney (1-57)and Kevin Brett (2-45)returned to Green duties after absences from the game. Ably assisted by Oli Sawyer (2-45)the pace attack performed well on a pitch that tends to favour batsmen. Then a terrific debutant performance from Crishan Casey with a tidy 4 over spell and 2 short spells from Graham Evans completed the bowling line up. The other young debutant Daniel Lake making his first senior performance, performed admirably behind the stumps showing how much his game has come on in a very short space of time. Allenburys knew the luck had been with them as they almost embarrassingly walked off at tea at 216-5, both openers having made 50s. Green in reply looked for a solid yet at the same time confident start. However after a couple of blows from Daniel Shimell he was back in the pavillion and the target was going to be a tall order. As wickets fell, Allenburys must have felt it was only a question of when, not whether. However, they had no idea that the captain had 'deliberately' distributed the batting talents throughout the order and thanks to confident performances from the U15s Casey (12) and Lake(28)and at no 9 Kevin Brett (43 *), Green avoided defeat and finished the match in a positive yet nail biting fashion. Whilst lacking many league points , it was good to actually not lose this match and in that respect ......it felt right.
