Match report Hatch End 1st XI were looking to win in this div 9 game to ensure they stayed in the promotion places. Leverstock Green needed to win to ensure likely survival in the Division. Hardly surprisingly Hatch End having won the toss asked The Green to bat. Wasn't worth having the toss as Green would have batted first anyway! A very steady start on a difficult batting track meant that wickets were in tact to progress the score later on.The middle order of Ajit Kumar (44) , Gareth Tucker (33) and Neil Fleming (47*) ensured that happened and eventually maxing out on batting points with a score of 203-9. Hatch Ends bowlers had performed well but must have been frustrated with the team's fielding on this occasion! In reply Hatch End scored at a reasonable rate but at 112-5 had lost half of their wickets......mainly to full tosses with 20 overs still remaining. Late resistance from 3 of Hatch Ends batters meant that the win for The Green was far from guaranteed. But finally with 2 overs remaining the final batter J Vadera (38) was caught by The skipper in the slips having come off the keeper's gloves first Steve May had been held back to make this happen. ! Brett Baney used the full toss to great effect with 4 for 42 off 13 overs. Assisi Rai 3 for 26 and Karl Turner 2 for 30 also hit at crucial times . Hatch End finished on 181. Well done Leverstock on a terrific 22 run victory with these 30 points very well deserved and relegation now avoided with 1 week of the season remaining. Apologies to the rest of the Club for having to wait until dusk to hear that a Chairman's jug could now be ordered for all 4 sides winning on the same day.
