Leverstock Green Cricket Club 1st XI v Kings Langley on Wed 17 Jul 2013 at 6.00pm
Leverstock Green Cricket Club Won by 26 runs

Match report KINGS LANGLEY might have thought they were half-way to the Heath Park Cup Final when Leverstock Green posted a modest 122-5 from their 20 overs, but the hosts steeled themselves, took regular wickets and ended up fashioning a well-deserved 26-run win in front of a decent crowd at The Green.

Supporters from both clubs watched Kings take an early grip on the tie with Levy's top order all falling cheaply to leave the home side at 50 for 5 in the 11th over.

But, from then, Richard Walker (40 not out) and Nick Merrett (20 not out) set about giving their bowlers something to work with thanks to some excellent running and the ability to put the bad ball to the boundary.

Levy's total ended at 122 after an unbroken 72-run sixth-wicket stand constructed on a dustbowl of a pitch during the innings' last nine overs.

And until Kings' No. 6 Mark Brazier put on 37 during something of a seventh-wicket rally, the visitors lost wickets so regularly that they never looked like chasing down the run-a-ball asking rate.

Green seamer Adam Thomas removed four of the top five in the KL order to return figures of 4-20 from his five overs while Brad Klosterman, playing his final game before a month in Oz, conceded just 12 runs from his quintet.

At 25-4 then 32-6, only Brazier stuck around for long but the run-rate was creeping up from about 6 to double-figures per over as batting partners came and went.

A highlight of the night was Levy's top-notch catching and ground fielding, the pick of which Merrett's boundary-line beauty to remove Duncan Fleming.

Levy finally booked their place in the Heath Park Cup final - against either Itehaad or Abbots Langley - when Lewis Koch ran out Varman Raknakuran in the game's 39th over with Kings 26 runs short.

Congratulations to skipper Sam Mazurek and his side, who are hopeful for a big turnout in support of the team at Hemel Hempstead Town's Heath Park ground for the Friday August 2 final.
