Match report A rain reduced game at St Margretsbury ended with a very tense victory for LGCC. St Margrestbury having won the toss elected to bat and had a maximum of 40 overs. early signs potentially meant we could have been chasing a large score of 180 plus as Tilbury set about punishing anything full and loose. At 65-0 from 12 overs we needed to take a wicket which Mazza duly obliged with a inswinging very full ball that had Tilbury LBW. From that point we bowled very well and took some good catches close up and in the deep. Plumbs again bowled excellent lines and lengths with no luck but the pick of the bowlers was Sam Mazurek with 3 wickets from 16 overs , a great spell from the big man. Koch 2-10 and Tyso 1-43 kept the scoring rates down as we happily settled for 158 to chase. A solid opening partnership B Parkes 11 and L Koch 46 (37) set the game up for a nervy ending. With David Coulshed (43) batting at 3 he showed his intentions from ball one with a scorching cover drive for 4. Again a 2nd wicket partnership (49) set us up with wickets in hand to chase down the target. KJ once again scored quickly (28) which maintained our momentum and now we needed to score at 10 an over for the last 4 to win this game. Boundaries were now needed to ensure our victory, Nick Merrett struck 12 including a 6 from the 2nd ball of the last over, we now needed 6 to win from 4 balls.Nick was out next ball bowled by Ansell but in strutted Mazza with confidence and duly dispatched his first ball faced for 4. Now 2 needed from 3 balls , no panic from our batters Maz and Abbas. Maz drove the ball for 2 and set the scene for wild celebrations, more of relief and joy! This was an excellent team performance with everyone contributing in some way, well done lads top of the league !
