LEVERSTOCK GREEN 3s kicked off summer 2014 with a somewhat disappointing 52-run defeat to Abbots Langley 3s at Parmiter's School.

Asked to bat first, 66 from Abbots' Ben Balmforth helped set a competitive target of 150 for victory - with the best of Green's bowling coming from Ash Ali's inexpensive eight overs (3-17) and Brett Baney (3-21 off 12).

In reply, few Levy batsman stayed around long enough to seriously trouble the scorers. Opener Mark Pearson faced over 50 balls for his dogged 12 but his tenacity went unmatched lower down the order.

Only skipper Gareth Tucker's 24 hinted at resistance as Abbots took the last Green wicket with the score three short of double-figures.
