Match report LGCC's Midweek B XI, a mix of up-and-coming talent and a handful of more experienced players, gave a good account of themselves against a strong Aldenham School (teachers) line-up in the first of this summer's midweek cricket matches.

Opener Harvey Henry top-scored with 36 and shared a second-wicket partnership of 47 with teenager Matt Gardner as the B team posted 104-5 from their 14 eight-ball overs in The Watford Observer Knockout Shield Round One.

Manav Gupta hit a useful unbeaten 28 to ensure the LGCC target moved into three figures against some wily bowling - not least of which by spinner Shead and seamer Pineo.

David Breeze, often an LGCC Cricket Week guest star, anchored the Aldenham reply alongside Luke Kirsten as the two openers scored 31 and 43 respectively to ensure the result was never in doubt.

Youthful seamers James Downes and Becky Tyson both bowled with credit, while skipper Olly Sawyer took two wickets in two deliveries to end up with remarkably parsimonious midweek figures of 2-4 from two overs.

Aldenham School got home with 2.3 overs to spare and plenty of wickets in hand. They'll continue into Round Two of the Shield while LGCC B will await the WO Plate quarter-final draw.
