Match report LGCC's junior cricket season finally got underway at what must be a record-breaking late date of July 29, thanks to Covid-19, with a highly watchable and competitive Under-14 fixture between Leverstock Green and Northchurch - who ran out winners with seven wickets and a couple of overs to spare.

If the result looks a little one-sided, the game certainly wasn't. And, with just one training session under their belts, Levy's U14s can be well pleased with the posting of a solid score of 111 - having been asked to bat first by the visitors to The Green, bathed in sunshine on a late July evening.

Gez Yates led the way with an unbeaten 25 (retired) while Ben Humphreys quick-fire 17 and Salman Saleem's deliberate 15 further up the order both ensured the scoreboard kept ticking.

In reply, LGCC's excellent fielding display saved 15-20 runs; a much-neeeded effort given they bowled too short and offered Church plenty of chance to pull the ball towards the clubhouse via a perilously short boundary on one side of the pitch.

Harry Walker, Lewis Cooper and Shazil Hussain - via a smart low catch by Yates - all picked up wickets, while captain Humphreys turned in a tidy display behind the stumps.

Northchurch, however, emerged deserved winners with 14 balls remaining when they passed Green's target.
