Match report LGCC's Under-15s performed creditably in taking the game against Tring Park to within eight balls of its finish at The Green; the visitors emerging deserved winners by a margin of five wickets.

A game played in excellent spirits, in no small part thanks to Tring's approach which was very much a reflection of the 'Spirit of Cricket', Green were asked to bat first and made the worst possible start with the loss of three early wickets.

George Sharman and top-scorer Salman Saleem (19) steadied the ship, however, to add 28 for the fourth wicket.

Ben Humphreys' unbeaten 17 towards the end of the innings, part of a 45-run stand with Saleem, helped set Tring a three-figure target to chase.

Park openers Freddie Newman and Finley Wade set off apace, suggesting the chase might not last long, but when Saleem bowled Wade this brought a slowing of the scoring rate.

Harry Walker's catch off Tom Rumble meant Charlie Steel departed cheaply, while George Hawes' slow-medium caught out Newman who missed a straight one.

Two late Jed Driver catches - off Saleem and Oli Dalton respectively - kept a flicker of hope alive for LGCC, but James Deane crashed home the winning boundary for Tring with two balls of the penultimate over in hand.

This performance restored confidence for some, although there's an acknowledgement of a commitment to improvement all-round if we're to realise the long-term ambition of getting all teenagers fed into adult teams within the rest of this season and into next summer.

One more Under-15 game will complete the oldest junior age group's season - away at St. Albans on Bank Holiday Monday.
