LEVERSTOCK GREEN gave away cheap wickets at the top of their order, falling short by 45 runs of Tring Park's modest 136 from 20 overs - meaning the Home Counties side progress to the Gazette Cup semi-finals.
For those who played and witnessed the Sawbridgeworth County Cup tie, there were striking similarities. Green bowled and fielded with gusto but then set about the chasing an not insurmountable total by trying to dispatch the ball to all parts when a run-a-ball policy on a large outfield would have sufficed to put them in with a shout come the closing overs.
Sam Mazurek's excellent five-over spell yielded just 25 runs - while in between the odd slap, Charlie Mahanama, Brad Klosterman and Adam Thomas offered fine alternatives.
But again, only three of Levy's top six made it into double-figures. Someone had to score big and stay in - and no one did. Nick Merrett's brave 25 at number six was the top score as Green ended on 91 for nine.
