Leverstock Green Cricket Club Under 14 XI v Aspley Guise on Sun 18 Jul 2010 at 2.00pm
Leverstock Green Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Highlights: Tom Callingham 52*, James Kavanagh 44, Dan Shimell 31.
TEENAGERS were the stars of the show for Leverstock Green, who edged a thrilling Sunday friendly against Aspley Guise with just two balls to spare.
Under-15 Tom Callingham hit the winning runs to bring up his unbeaten half- century and record a four-wicket win for the Green, in a game which saw over half of both sides made up from the two clubs' junior sections.
James Kavanagh took the opener's role with Dayle Littlejohn and excelled with the bat to reach an impressive 44.
Dan Shimell provided impetus to the run chase with a powerful 31 while Alex King found the gaps perfectly at the inning's end as he and Callingham put on an unbroken 46 to land the spoils.
Earlier in the day, having been asked to field, Oli Sawyer was the pick of a Green bowling line-up which saw 30 of the 40 overs bowled by Under-18s.
This is the first friendly deliberately arranged to give the club's older teenagers some much-needed game time, without being under the pressure of Saturday Herts League competition. It is hoped there will be at least two more such matches before the end of the 2010 campaign.
Last word to Aspley Guise: our thanks to them for providing spirited and sporting opposition in front of the watching Bedmond Road crowd. We hope to welcome them back next summer.
