Match report LEVERSTOCK GREEN Under-13s served up a thriller to round off their enjoyable season - going down by just two runs at the end of a terrific game of cricket against a warm-spirited Northchurch side.

The visitors posted 130-2 from their 20 overs, and Levy can be pleased to have contributed only 23 extras - Just seven wides and two no-balls were bowled against some positive and impressive Church batting.

Ben Orriss's typically line & length bowling saw him bowl opener Dylan Eaton, while Salman Saleem took the only other wicket to fall during a match played under regular 11-a-side rules.

In reply, early dismissals appeared to hamper Green's chances but they were always up with or near the run-rate required.

However it took a somewhat unlikely seventh wicket partnership between Shazil Hussain and Salman Saleem to bring Green right back into the contest as the overs ticked down.

Shazil, who top-scored with 27 not out, and Salman - who made a very mature and patient 17 - added 54 for the seventh wicket and left Levy needing 40 to win from the last four overs.

Ben Orriss continued the come-back with some clean striking as Shazil carried on adding to his score in his own inimitable style.

The game came down to nine runs required from the final over, and there were thoughts of a Super-Over as Northchurch opening bowler Will Burrows ran in with three needed for an LGCC win.

However Ben went for a big shot - as he had to - and Will clean bowled his man leaving Levy just two runs short in their bid to end the season with a victory.


SEASON SUMMARY
Two long-term injuries to key Under-13 players (wicketkeeping all-rounder Ben Humphreys and all-rounder Jed Driver) hampered the chances of building any serious momentum for the team, however - boosted by the inclusion of extra Under-12 players - the side played some good cricket at times and secured their fair share of wins from the fixture schedule.

More important was seeing individual improvement among all of the players; some of it more pronounced than others, but nevertheless everyone continues to develop and, most importantly, enjoy their cricket. That's what we do this for, after all.

It's my hope that those who'll be Under-14 players in season 2020 will retain that enthusiasm they've always had and gradually work their way into LGCC's senior teams - as so many junior players have over the years here.

Whether that happens or not, it'll be a privilege to coach and care for these lads once again. They give great joy and are such a happy and unified bunch. It's a pleasure to help provide cricket for them.
