Match report A WORTHWHILE Sunday morning's cricket at The Green for the Under-14s - and a much-improved display from largely the same team that served up a sub-standard offering in an Under-15s game a few days before this much more competitive performance.

Redbourn were worthy winners, no question, eclipsing Levy's modest target with three overs in hand, but there were several individual highlights for developing LGCC teenage players.

Ben Humphrey's unbeaten 26 (retired not out) was the highlight of the first half of the match, with hosts Levy having been asked to bat first.

Harry Walker's first significant runs of the summer (14 not out) and George Sharman's patient 13 atop the order also contributed to a score of 93 for 3 from Green's 20 overs being posted.

In excellent batting conditions, that always felt - and so it proved - to be at least 30 runs short of a target that might make Redbourn sweat for their victory, but a greatly improved display of fielding and bowling from Levy meant that the game got as far as the end of the 17th over.

Although wicketless, Lewis Cooper was the pick of the Green seamers, with Sharman and Essen Khan - on his seasonal debut -offering tidy support.

Sharman provided the champagne moment in the field with a catch on the run at long-off, while 'Dead Eye' Callum Pillay got his run-out tally off the mark for the summer with a great piece of work at backward point as well as taking a smart catch later on.

Gez Yates benefited from that Pillay catch and wicketkeeper Humphreys' grab to record two dismissals from his three overs.

A few choice words from Coach Rich seemed to have the lads in a more focused frame of mind for a performance well skippered by Walker.
