Harpenden v Leverstock Green Cricket Club Under 14 XI on Tue 15 Jun 2021 at 6.00pm
Leverstock Green Cricket Club Lost by 37 runs
Match report
IT was a night to forget with the bat for LGCC's Under-14s.
Three prolific run scorers of this summer were lost within the first few overs, all of whom playing uncharacteristically tentative shots, causing further uncertainty to permeate throughout the remaining order.
A pity really, given Green had bowled and fielded very well, keeping Harpenden to a competitive but chaseable 113 at their picturesque main ground on The Common.
Levy's two Alfies proved the team's most effective bowlers - Cawley and Gaywood-George both bowling accurately in taking a pair of wickets apiece.
Cawley provided Green's obvious champagne moment of the night, tumbling low to his right to take a fantastic return catch from a firmly-struck on-drive.
Then quick work from wicketkeeper Stanley Heritage provided a stumping for G-G's first dismissal, which was followed with a catch at cover by Callum Pillay to set up a hat-trick ball but no cigar on this occasion.
Opening seamers Mo Tayyab and Shazil Hussain conceded just 20 runs between them from Harpenden's first six overs, while captain Lewis Cooper bowled three very accurate overs later in the innings.
The tumble of early wickets meant the result was never in doubt after the first few overs of the LGCC reply, and a game which promised an exciting finish ended up petering out in to a disappointing 37-run loss; this despite the best efforts of Shazil Hussain who, coming at No. 10, top-scored with 18 not out to further highlight Green's batting woes on the night.
Once again, it was a good-natured game with our friends from Harpenden and thoughts turn to a better performance on Thursday at home to Wheathampstead.
