Leverstock Green Cricket Club Under 11 XI v Hemel Hempstead 2 on Mon 14 Jun 2021 at 6.00pm
Leverstock Green Cricket Club Lost by 6 runs
Match report
THERE'S still much development to come from LGCC's Under-11 group, however to be 60 runs closer to a win than against last time versus Hemel Town 2 shows sure signs of progress.
That improvement isn't always a smooth upward line; it can be a much different trajectory as each player develops different skills in separate ways. But there's real signs of promise from all players, with the key factor being that cricket is being enjoyed now the summer evenings have finally decided to deign us with their presence.
Having been asked to bat first, Green posted a target of 248-6 from their 16 overs.
Nikhil Dodhia and Zain Hussain - each scoring 11 - were the pick of the batters on the evening, although mention should be given to Mason Hannibal for batting very sensibly against some accurate bowling.
Generally the batting needs a little more attention right now; but it's nothing that time and practise won't take care of. This was an evening when the ball was struck more often by Levy bodies than the bat itself it seemed as the ice pack made its way round the team to attend to bumps & bruises!
Bowling and fielding, however, are further advanced - pleasingly so. Despite a fair splodge of wides, which isn't unusual among all teams at this echelon of competition, LGCC made Hemel 2 work hard for their win.
Josh Hooper's dead-eye aim from the first ball of the innings set the tone in the field; he threw the stumps down from fine leg and repeated the feat from mid-off later on.
Matthew Treadaway will feel hard done by not to take a catch having moved his feet into position nicely, while Shrey took a catch at cover to hand a dismissal to Zain - who bowled just as well as he'd batted earlier.
His two run-outs - allied to two Shrey Mehta wickets and a parsimonious two overs from Charlie Veragoo - kept Green in the game right into the final over, but Hemel 2 came away with a six-run triumph.
Another enjoyable evening's cricket and we look forward to seeing further progress at Boxmoor next week.
