Leverstock Green Cricket Club T20 XI v Kings Langley on Thu 10 Jun 2021 at 6.00pm
Leverstock Green Cricket Club Won by 9 runs
Match report
LGCC's T20 side squeezed past Kings Langley - by just nine runs at The Green - to reach the semi-finals of the 2021 Heath Park Cup.
Neither side made good use of batting-friendly conditions; a criticism especially apposite in Levy's case who, having won the toss and batted first, frittered away early wickets in their pursuit of a flying start.
Skipper Dayle Littlejohn and Jamie Wallis restored some semblance of order after Green had been reduced to 20-3 in the fifth over, however it was Kyle Claxton who looked most at ease while compiling the inning's top score of 20.
A late unbeaten partnership of 18 between Troy Henry (18*) and Buddhia Attanayake (10*) would prove crucial in pushing LGCC's total into three figures and giving the bowlers something to work with.
And, in fairness, it was a bowling and fielding performance of high quality from the home team as they strangled Kings Langley's reply until some clean striking from Andrew Burnell - who made 24 not out - and Christian James (21) suddenly added some late jeopardy to the outcome.
Adam Thomas went for just 21 from his five overs, although Charlie Mahanama's wicket-to-wicket five-over spell of 3-18 was the pick of Levy's bowling analysis.
At 57-5 from 16 overs, Kings looked to have far too much to do, but then Burnell and James got their eye in to give their side a sporting chance of victory when 27 were needed from the final two overs of a sun-soaked contest.
Nick Merrett's quick thinking in the field helped to run out James before, in the game's final over parsimoniously delivered by Attanayake, Merrett went one better from long-on when his direct-hit throw claimed the wicket of Tom Warrell and left Kings with too much to do from the tie's final four balls.
LGCC will now travel to Heath Park to face current holders Hemel Hempstead Town (date TBC), after they beat Watford Town.
