Hemel Hempstead Town v Leverstock Green Cricket Club T20 XI on Fri 25 Jun 2021 at 6.00pm
Leverstock Green Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
Sixteen-year-old Cole Seggery displayed his precocious batting talents with a match-winning 49 as Leverstock Green chased down Hemel Town's 99 with 15 balls to spare to reach the 2021 Heath Park Cup Final.
Kyle Claxton - with whom wicketkeeper-bat Seggery put on 64 for the fifth wicket - also played a leading hand in Levy's victory with a wonderfully-paced 41 not out, including a game-ending maximum over mid-wicket to seal a triumph which had hung firmly in the balance early in Green's reply.
On a slow pitch, Hemel's batsmen struggled to cut loose as much due to conditions as the reasonably accurate LGCC bowling attack.
The pick of Levy's bowlers Adam Thomas castled opener Brett Penny for 28, just as he seemed set to accelerate, while Aaron Wilson was run out late on for a useful 26.
Despite the conditions, Hemel's 99-7 looked a fraction below par - albeit chasing T20 runs is never an easy art to perfect, especially away from home in front of a bumper crowd at Hemel's Heath Park ground.
Yet although early wickets fell around him, Seggery kept his composure throughout; his shot selection and ability to punish the bad ball particularly impressive during what has to rank as one of his most impressive senior innings for The Green.
At 28-4 after eight overs, the opener was delighted to find in Claxton a partner prepared to nudge the ball into spaces for singles and twos while still capable of sending anything loose to the fence.
The pair gradually whittled a climbing run rate back down and took the game away from the hosts to leave just nine runs for victory when Seggery was cruelly denied a half-century by holing out at cow corner from a full toss.
LGCC now await the winners of Langleybury v Abbots Langley to see who they'll face in the Heath Park Cup Final at Hemel Town CC on Friday July 9.
