Leverstock Green Cricket Club T20 XI v Kings Langley on Wed 21 Jun 2023 at 6.00pm
Leverstock Green Cricket Club Lost by 2 runs
Match report
In front of an impressive crowd made up of pizza-hungry LGCC junior players and plenty of other supporters, Kings Langley won the toss and chose to make first use of a decent batting deck at The Green - a track which would also offer something to the bowlers.
Tom Sambrook top-scored for the visitors with 35 and Elliot Hutchings was next-best with 20 as Kings put up what seemed an under-par target of 103-8 from their 20 overs. Good bowling and fielding from Levy played a part in that; dismissals were shared around although both spinners Sol Tomlinson and skipper Troy Henry bowled with great control, while Carlos La Rose picked up 3-27.
The loss of early wickets soon turned Green's run chase into a far more difficult task than necessary. The top three all went cheaply, leaving Henry (22) and Kyle Walcott (18) to rebuild the innings. Kings took their catching chances and the constant fall of wickets set up a tight finish, with seven needed for an LGCC win from the final over.
Harry Sambrook was left with the responsibility of delivering the final six balls and did so with aplomb. Only three runs were accrued from the first five, with Brandon Newman unable to hit a winning boundary off the last - meaning KLCC ran out winners by two runs to book a first final appearance since they won the Heath Park Cup back in 2017.
Good luck to KLCC in the final. They were deserving of victory on the night.
