HERTS LEAGUE ROUND-UP - WEEK 2: Jillani's 7-For & KJ's 70 Seal Victory For 2s & 1s

15 May 2016

JILLANI GHULAM'S seven-wicket haul won the game for LGCC's 2nd XI - putting paid to any hope Hatfield & Crusaders had of chasing down 182 at The Green.

It was a sparkling display of left-arm seam bowling, backed up at the other end by 2-41 from John Mathew.

After solid top-order contributions from opener Harry Blagden (40) and No. 4 Mark Landau (45), Green - having been asked to bat - let their innings fade away somewhat to end on 182 all out with nearly five overs going begging.

But Ghulam charged down the Bedmond Road slope to mop up Hatfield's batting line-up and earn the 2s a second straight early-season victory.

There was triumph also for the 1st XI at Broxbourne, with the highlight an undefeated 71 - including seven 6s - from Kris Jadeja (pictured) as Levy comfortably chased down the host's target of 169.

Lewis Koch was unlucky to fall one short of a half-century, while earlier in the day, Adam Thomas' 3-32 from his 10 overs was the pick of the Green 1s' bowling attack.

Although the records show a seven-wicket defeat, it was a much closer game than that for Green's 4s, who made Berkhamsted IV use up all but the last over in chasing down 200 for victory.

Andy Welch remained unbeaten on 55 for Green, coming in at No. 5, while Rob Cooke (28) and Dave Young (24) both returned useful contributions as the visitors posted 199-9 at Kitchener's Field.

Cooke and Naran Jagatia were the most economical of Green's bowlers but wickets were at a premium as Berko got home for the loss of just three at the end of over 39.

Green 3rd XI again disappointed with the bat, mustering one run less than last week in posting 90 all out at Parmiter's against Mill Hill Village II.

Only Chris Saxby, with 27, found any sort of fluency as Levy were dismissed within 33 overs.

Sam Roberts conceded just 22 from his 10 overs, and Tom Callingham 27 from his nine, but both bowling efforts were in vain as Mill Hill cruised home by an six-wicket margin.
