HERTS LEAGUE ROUND-UP - WEEK 4: Wallis Leads 2s Batting Bonanza & TC Claims Five as 2s & 3s Win

30 May 2016

CAPTAIN Jamie Wallis led from the front as his LGCC 2nd XI amassed a match-winning 314 at home to Radlett III - a score the visitors never really threatened as their chase fell nearly 100 runs short.

Wallis opened the batting and hit 88 - joined for a 150-run second-wicket partnership by Sam Revell, who scored 78. Later, Nick Merrett ensured the inning's impetus continued with 65 and Lee Littlejohn hit a quick-fire 28 as Green posted an imposing target.

Levy didn't give Radlett a sniff of success in the field, either. Tight lines from opening bowlers John Mathew and Jillani Ghulam - who each took two wickets - ensured the required run-rate was always prohibitively high. Ben Goode and Littlejohn also snared a brace of dismissals apiece as the 2s continue to top the Division 5A table alongside Parkfield & Headstone with maximum points from four games.

GREEN 3rd XI's five-wicket win at Redbourn III owed much to a fine return of 5-28 for all-rounder Tom Callingham - backed up by seam bowling partner Sam Roberts, who conceded just 20 runs from his one-wicket 10-over spell.

Ritchie Carruthers' injured-delayed debut yielded him 2-34 as Redbourn were removed for 155 after 40 overs.

Levy's chase began with a pair of top-order 24s from the bats of openers Connor Church and Graham Evans, before the father-and-son Fleming partnership of Neil and Rory struck 13 not out and 29 not out respectively as Green cruised home with nearly 11 overs and five wickets in hand.

JUNIOR players were to the fore in the field and with the ball although Levy 4s fell 65 runs short in their run chase at home to West Herts IV.

Aryan Tomer collected two wickets, one of which thanks to a catch from father Atul, while Hasan Ali bowled four tidy overs. Fellow Under-15s Cameron Tattershall and Nathan Glasscoe performed with distinction in the field.

West Herts reached 213-6 and, despite Rob Cooke's 31 and skipper Dave Young's 24, Green never suggested they had a chance in the chase and were all out for 148.

THE GREEN 1st XI were brought back down to earth with a bump after topping the Division 1 table last weekend. Bundled out for 115, they went down to a seven-wicket defeat at Kings Langley.

Dayle Littlejohn's side never recovered from losing four early wickets and, despite Ajit Kumar's middle-order 46 and 23 from opener Lewis Koch, Levy only just scrambled into three figures.

Kings, who'd started the game towards the wrong end of the table, showed the fine margins in this division by knocking off Green's meagre target in 25 overs.
