CRICKET WEEK 2016: Thanks For A Fantastic Week!

05 Aug 2016

HERE'S a note from Cricket Week Manager Mike Parkes, about 2016's version of LGCC's showcase five days of cricket and much, much more...

As another fantastic cricket week draws to a close, we can reflect upon another great team effort across the club blessed by generally good weather - with exciting  matches and a range of post-match entertainment which kept the audience enthralled.

Who will forget 'Slip & Slide' which has become a sensation with the children across the village, as well as the various Green challenges including the 99mph catching competition.

These activities together with the 'Singalong', Wednesday's Live Music Night, Sounds of the Caribbean and Steve Wright's classic Friday night disco set continued the cricket week tradition of the club celebrating together.

So many people have worked so hard this week, particularly our chairman Steve Wright who has grafted every day behind the scenes.

I would like to thank all the bar staff throughout the week; from the experienced old hands through to the whole host of young debutants and those who jumped on to support in the -difficult late-afternoon periods.

Thanks also to the club chefs for their breakfasts, lunches, teas and evening food - Gill, Tracey, Linda, Alison, Caroline, Holly, Keeley, Claire & Dawn - as well as those who worked hard after hours cleaning, banking, barrelling and putting the club back in order to start again.

Thanks to our scorers Diane & Graham and umpires who gave their time to enable the cricket to happen and finally a big thank you to all the players at this club and from visiting clubs who used their hard-earned holiday entitlements, many being available to help all week to ensure Cricket Week continues in its inimitable style.

From our travels far and wide, we are yet to meet a club that has succeeded with a cricket week for so many consecutive years and on such a scale.

It's a long tradition that enables us all to enjoy our time together whilst helping ensure the club's continued financial stability.

Many thanks to all of you who ventured down to The Green this week to support our club.

Cricket Week preview story...

LGCC's famous Cricket Week - this year from Monday July 25 to Friday July 29 -promises to once again showcase all that's great about being at The Green.

Awaiting all who are able to join for as many days as they'd like to are five days of competitive cricket, accompanied by evening revelry LGCC-style.

President Brian Coulshed kicks off the week's sport on Monday in traditional style by assembling a crack select XI to take on the good men of Levy Green, led by Club Captain Richard Walker.

Mark Pearson's City Slackers arrive for a hard-earned day off work on Tuesday to sharpen their cricketing skills, then it's a Centurions reunion on Wednesday.

Thursday's Caribbean Day grows in popularity every year as our friends from St. Albans West Indian CC join us for cricket and calypso culture post-match.

Then, on Friday, it's 1st XI skipper Dayle Littlejohn's crack unit taking on the best LGCC has to offer in a fitting on-field finale to the week's cricket.

And this is only the half of it! Click HERE for the full list of each day's activities, set to take place both on the outfield and in the clubhouse after play has ended.
