SUNDAY SAWICC XI: Two Wins Needed For Promotion After First Defeat Of Season

07 Aug 2016

THE joint Sunday team between LGCC and our friends at St. Albans West Indian CC must now win its last two games of the season to ensure promotion after losing at Bourne End.

Despite an unbeaten 77 from SAWICC's Harvey Henry, chasing down the host's 288 never looked likely due to the fall of early wickets.

Openers Sol Tomlinson and Jamie Wallis both got off to starts but fell in the 20s, leaving Henry and the middle & lower order to try and fashion a response to Bourne End's better-than-a-run-ball 45-over total.

It didn't happen and it was a first defeat of what's been a very successful and enjoyable partnership during summer 2016, however there was some late entertainment with 'Big John' Mathew smashing 26 mostly in boundaries.

Earlier in the day, there were wickets for all LGCC & SAWICC bowlers - including an impressive short spell of leg-spin from Will Rumble.

So it's two wins from the last two games needed now, starting with a top-of-the-table clash at The Green next Sunday, August 14, against Old Fullerians, before the last match at Hemel Hempstead on Sunday August 21.
