SENIOR CRICKET ROUND-UP - WEEK 4: Tomlinson Leads Way At Shenley As 1s & 2s Chase To Victory

27 May 2017

SOL TOMLINSON hit a crucial unbeaten 66 as LGCC 1st XI posted their first win of summer 2016 with a fine run chase at Shenley Village.

Having lost the toss, Green felt pleased to restrict the hosts to 229-9 from their 50 overs. Although he only got two wickets, Majid Khan was the pick of the Levy bowlers with 2-32 from his 10 overs. Adam Thomas was back to something like his best in garnering figures of 4-49.

Tomlinson went for 37 from his 10 overs, before helping put LGCC's run chase back on track when it was floundering at 140-5.

That was after Lewis Koch's 56 at the top of the order, 39 from Kris Jadeja and patient support from Kyle Claxton.

It was left, however, to housemates Tomlinson and skipper Dayle Littlejohn (14 not out) to push past Shenley's total with four overs in hand.

CAPTAIN Imran Iqbal will be similarly pleased with how LGCC 2s held their nerve to chase down Bentley Heath's target of 193, set at The Green.

Nahim Iqbal's leg-spin helped take three lower-order wickets to curtail the visitor's innings just short of the 50-over mark. He took 3-28 from 6.5 overs, while again Dave Tyson topped the economy chart with his 10-over two-wicket spell costing just 27 runs.

In reply, Tyson helped get Levy's reply off to a brisk start. He took 23 off an over within his score of 46, ably supported by fellow opener Keith Glasscoe (26).

Earlier injured and absent for a chunk of time, Mark Landau shrugged off a damaged finger to return at No.7 and hit a match-winning 41 not out with excellent late-order support from both Chrishan Casey and Dom Clarke helping to seal a two-wicket success.

DESPITE 47 from Aryan Tomar and opener Ben Parkes' 38, Levy Green 3rd XI's 194 all out proved an insufficient target for Old Minchendenians at Parmiter's School.

The visitors relied on S Khan's exploits with both ball and then bat, with him remaining unbeaten on 73 to steer his team home despite two wickets apiece for Brett Baney, Tomar and debutant Jonathan Chan.

FOURTH XI skipper Dave Young fielded something of a makeshift side away to Old Eastcotians, who had too much for LGCC on the day.

The hosts posted a giant 272-4 from their 40 overs, with a cameo appearance from Tony Koch harvesting him two dismissals. Andy Welch enjoyed a similar return as the only other bowler to take wickets.

In reply, Green crumbled to 53 all out with Young's 12 the only double-figure entry on the scorecard.
