SENIOR CRICKET ROUND-UP - WEEK 7: Green's Points Haul Is From The 18-30 Club

17 Jun 2017

IT was a 96-point Herts League Saturday for The Green - made up of two 30-point hauls and two 18-point hauls.

The two wins were different in nature, though. Skipper Dave Young (pictured) took three wickets and one was of three half-centurians as Green 4s held off the challenge of Hatch End II to win by 12 runs.

Meanwhile, Levy 2nd XI bowled and fielded with aplomb to defeat an always dangerous Preston II outfit by seven wickets at The Green.

Dayle Littlejohn's 1st XI earned 18 points from a trip to Hemel Town, with both sides pushing past the 200 mark, and it was a high-scoring affair for the 3s at home to Preston III as they too collected 18 points.

Elstree-based Hatch End II provided the opposition for LGCC 4s, but couldn't tie down Atul Tomar (66), Andy Green (60 not out) or Young (51) as Green racked up 225-4 from their 40 overs.

The host's reply rattled along but was checked by three wickets from Young. Earlier, Becky Tyson returned Levy's best bowling figures of 3-26 from eight overs - while Will Rumble also claimed a trio of dismissals as Green ended with 12 runs in hand to move second in Saracens Herts Premier Cricket League Regional Division C West.

An understrength Preston II proved no match for LGCC 2s' bowling attack at The Green.

Big John Mathew celebrated the birth of his second child, Blake, by snaring 3-26 while Dom Clarke bowled an economical seven over spell to return figures of 2-15. Nahim Iqbal picked up three late order victims - with the bowling backed up by tidy glovework from Sam Mazurek and some sharp catching.

The regular clatter of wickets left Preston marooned on 146 all out from 47.4 overs.

It proved at least 100 runs short as a target, with Dave Tyson's 48 atop the Green order coming in quick time.

Jamie Wallis batted diligently for his 41 not out, while Mark Landau's 33 helped see Levy home inside 29 overs.

An 18-points draw left Green 1s happy with a tough afternoon's work at Heath Park against Hemel Hempstead Town.

Batting first, Green posted 238-7 with Kris Jadeja's 49 the top score and a number of other useful top-order contributions.

In reply, Hemel appeared to have the run chase under control but Levy managed their end-game to good effect.

Abbas Ali in particular bowled with control at the death, recording figures of 3-46. Sol Tomlinson proved the most economical with a 3.36 rpo rate from his 14 overs which yielded a brace of dismissals as Town closed on 219-8.

Like the 1st XI, Rory Fleming's Green 3s were left two wickets short of victory.

Mike Downes hit 60 and Fleming 49 as the 3rd XI posted an impressive 224 all out.

In reply, Ritchie Carruthers toiled through 14 overs manfully in the heat to garner three wickets for 52 runs. Steve May's parsimonious 12 overs kept a check on the Preston III run chase and the visitors ended some 21 runs short of Levy's total with eight wickets down.
